MAURICE LOUIS FORTIER On October 8, 2015 in Kelowna, BC Maurice went to be with the love of his life, Juliette (nee Decruyenaere). He was predeceased by his parents Romeo and Florence Fortier. He is survived by children Robert (Susan) and Diane (Brian), four grandchildren, his sister Aline Bohn of Winnipeg, and numerous nieces and nephews. Maurice was born on July 18, 1933 at St. Boniface Hospital and raised on a farm in Letellier, Manitoba. As a teenager he moved to St. Boniface and attended Provencher School and later studied at St. Boniface College. After graduation he went on to become a draftsman and was employed by Dominion Bridge until 1979. It was during this time he met Juliette and they would go on to share 53 years of marriage. Never were two people more in love. During his younger life, Dad was an avid stamp collector. He also did much fishing and camping. In 1979, in a spirit of adventure, he decided to move the family to Surrey, BC where he became a long-time member of St. Bernadette parish and a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus. He also enjoyed volunteering at bingo. In 1995 he retired with Juliette to Westbank, BC for the final chapter of his life. He was in quite good health until three years ago but then suffered a stroke. Since then he battled with his trademark stubbornness, his declining health. Like a boxer in the 12th round he went down swinging. But the love he shared with Mom was too strong and he went to be with her. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes, 2547 Hebert Road, West Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, 4 - 1551 Sutherland Ave., Kelowna, BC V1Y 9M9.
