THELMA JOYCE PATERSON March 21, 1925 - October 13, 2015 It is with great sorrow the family announces the peaceful passing of Thelma Paterson. Thelma is survived by her sons, Kevin (Cathy) and Brian, her daughter Nancy (Norman Dyck), as well as grandchildren Sara (Dave) Girardin, Carolyn (Matt) Lussier, Laura (Jean-Pierre) Labossiere, Cameron (Kathrin), Evan (Kate), and Dale, great-grandchildren Felix and Madeleine, and brother Les Peterson. Thelma was predeceased by her husband Lorne, and by her parents Fernand and Elsie Peterson. Mum was born in St. James and spent her married life in Charleswood. Mum met Lorne while she was working in the grain industry and they married in 1947. They were together until his passing in 2014. Mum always thought she didn't "do anything" but her list of volunteer services contradicts that. Mum was a volunteer librarian at Chapman School through the years we attended. At the same time she managed to help out with the local Brownie troupe and still managed to curl twice a week at the Charleswood Curling Club where she became a honorary life member. She was also an avid golfer, getting out twice a week with the Blumberg ladies and with the Tuxedo ladies. Mum was a proud, lifelong Blue Bomber fan and season ticket holder for 42 years. Mum was also very involved with the St. Mary's Anglican Church in Charleswood and spent many springs helping to find people to work at the "Flowers by God" plant stand. She also volunteered to drive folks for the Charleswood Seniors meetings. Another of Mum's volunteer efforts was for Meals on Wheels where she spent 35 years, first as a driver and then as a route captain. Family was also very important to Mum and she liked nothing better than having the whole family over for dinner. It goes without saying Mum will be missed, but we can take solace in knowing she is at peace. A celebration of Mum's life will take place on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Winnipeg Humane Society or to a charity of your choice. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Our sympathy to the family of Thelma. We were neighbours of The Patersons,Lorne ,Thelma and Brian. We have only lovely memories of Thelma as she was a one of a kind lady, always a smile and a great sense of humour. She had a special friendship with our little dog Loki, who would run to see her when she sat outside and our love of animals was a bond we shared. We lost touch after moving away, but always held her in our hearts.Love Elaine,Darren and Crissy - Posted by: Elaine,Darren and Crissy (Friend and neighbour) on: Dec 14, 2016

  • So very sorry to hear of Helen's passing. Helen always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. Lots of memories from the Charleswood Curling Rink, and the fun we all had there. - Posted by: Donna Hay (Fellow curler) on: Oct 18, 2015

  • Thelma and Lorne were valued friends of my Mom and Dad for longer than my lifetime. I remember evenings at the Paterson household while the adults watched the hockey games and playing at the curling rink while the adults curled and celebrated. I remember Thelma at the Library when I went to Chapman school and how important I felt because I got to call her "Thelma." When I visited Thelma last summer I thanked her for being a dear friend to my Mom and in her usual humble way she said "It was Dorothy who was a great friend to me." I will really miss you Thelma, you always made me feel special. Love, Elaine - Posted by: Elaine Paulson (Friend) on: Oct 17, 2015
