INEZ TRUEMAN 1917- 2015 Following a brief illness, Inez Trueman died peacefully on the morning of August 22, 2015 at the Grace Hospital, in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Kenneth Trueman in 1977. She is survived by her sister Natalie and her sons, Robert, David (Sandra), Donald (Deanna) and her daughter Martha (Edward) Kennedy and their children and grandchildren. Born April 8 1917 in Glenwood, Minnesota, the daughter of Gustav and Ida Gandrud, she was a graduate nurse. She met Ken Trueman at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, married him and moved to Winnipeg in 1939. She raised four children, all born in Winnipeg. In the 1950s, she became deeply involved in the social and cultural well being of the community. She served as President of the Junior League of Winnipeg in 1951. The Junior League is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. She served as President of the Central Volunteer Bureau from 1954 to 1956. The Bureau is now the Volunteer Centre of Winnipeg. The Volunteer Centre of Winnipeg promotes, encourages and supports voluntarism through consultation, training and related services to the voluntary, private, and public sectors in Manitoba. She served as President of the Social Planning Council of Winnipeg from 1965 to 1967. The Council is a membership based organization committed to providing leadership in social planning and effecting social policy changes. She was elected City Councillor for River Heights in 1968 and served as MLA for Fort Rouge from 1969 to 1973. While in the Legislature, she gained the respect of members of all parties for her contributions on health and social development. She was named YWCA Woman of the Year -Political Affairs and government in 1980. She served as a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive of the Health Sciences Centre from 1978 to 1984. She was a member of the Board of the Manitoba Medical Services Foundation for many years. She has a distinguished record of service to the people of Manitoba. In her later years, she enjoyed travelling with her good friend Norman Alexander, playing bridge, watching her family grow up and Happy Hour with her friends at the Wellington. A memorial service will be held at The Wellington, 3161 Grant Avenue, at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 24, 2015. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in her memory may be made to the Assiniboine Park Conservancy Capital Campaign or a charity of choice.
