ALICE FARRELL (LEAR) 1923 - 2015 Peacefully on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at the age of 92, Alice passed away at Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg. Alice was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Gerry, in 1991. She is survived by and will be sadly missed by her children, Paul (Lorraine), Gary (Helen) and Maureen (Dale), six grandchildren, Corey (Taiya), Janelle (Ryan), Heather (Mike), Collin (Cristina), Reid (Cherilyn) and Jennifer (Tyler), and was "GG" to ten great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her sisters, Patricia DeGrave and Rosemary (Gerry) Vercaigne, and many nieces and nephews. Alice grew up and lived in St. Vital and Norwood and attended school at Glenwood, Holy Cross and St. Mary's Academy where she is an Honorary Life Member of the Alumnae. She was proud of her 69 year membership in the Catholic Women's League. Alice married Gerry on August 15, 1942 and they lived in Norwood until moving to Kirchhoff Gardens in St. Vital in 1989. During their 47 years on Dubuc Street, involvement with activities at Holy Cross Parish was an important part of their lives. She spent many happy times with good friends in Norwood and Kirchhoff Gardens. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needle point, bingo, and the occasional visit to the casino. As her health failed and she fought a losing battle with chronic pain, she took up residence in Thorvaldson's Care Home and, for the past three years, at Deer Lodge Centre. The family would like to thank the staff at Deer Lodge Centre, 4E, for their care and compassion. A celebration of her life will take place Friday, October 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church, 135 John Forsyth Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations can be made in Alice's honor to the Lung Association of Manitoba, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3A 1P6. Desjardins 233-4949 1-888-233-4949 www.desjardinsfuneralchapel.ca

Dear Maureen, so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I have very fond memories of our friendship in school and all the lunch hours we spent at your house. Your Mom was always home when you would bring me to your house at lunch hour. I remember her smile and I always felt welcome in her home. Paul, Gary, and Maureen, My deepest condolences in your loss of a wonderful lady and Mother. My sympathy is with you and your families. Pat and Rosemary, my prayers are with you, and I wish I could have been able to attend the celebration of her life but Tennessee is just a bit too far. She was a lady I so much admired. - Posted by: Michele Sheldon (nee Roscoe) (Family friend and neighbor on Dubuc Street) on: Oct 22, 2015
