JOHN (JACK) LORNE CAMERON
Born: Jun 05, 1928
Date of Passing: Oct 20, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN (JACK) LORNE CAMERON Jack passed away in the early hours of October 20, 2015 at the age of 87. He was predeceased by his brother William; sister Rene (Townsend); and children Catherine and William. He is survived by his wife Arlene; children, Lorna (Dan), James (Lori), and Elizabeth; as well as grandchildren, Benjamin, Thoby, Adam, Sarah, Gage, and nephews Philip, John, and Mark Townsend. Jack's working life was spent with the C.P.R., Soo-Security Motorways, and Transamerica Insurance, eventually becoming a broker with his own agency. While Jack's career allowed him to provide a comfortable life for his family, it was the relationships his work allowed him to cultivate that he enjoyed most. He grew up in the West End, just blocks from Sargent Park, and would later recall fondly the long hours he spent on the track and tennis courts there. As a young man, he added badminton at the old Winnipeg Badminton Club to his sports agenda and always regretted the loss of those fine courts. Marriage and young children found Jack coaching hockey at the Windsor Community Club and introducing his family to badminton at the Winnipeg Canoe Club, where they were members for many years. Later, there was tennis at Taylor Tennis, golf, bridge, and snooker with friends whose company he enjoyed immensely. Solitary trips in and around the city on his Bottechia ten-speed were another outlet for his irrepressible energy. Jack led his family on many adventures, among them Disneyland and Expo '68, and drove and camped with them across western Canada. In later years, he and Arlene enjoyed canoe trips in northwest Ontario and spent many warm and happy winter months in Arizona, but never before they had hosted a storybook Christmas for three generations of Camerons. 'C'mon. Let's go!' was his mantra. A bright light in our lives has gone out. We will miss him terribly. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to our many friends and neighbours for their kindness and concern over the last few years. Jack really loved dogs - all dogs. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Jack's memory to an animal rescue charity of your choice. Family and friends are invited to a gathering in Jack's memory at the Tamarack Room in the Qualico Family Centre in Assiniboine Park from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 2015.

My Uncle Jack was the best uncle that I could ever have asked for. He was a good and kind man and taught me things that needed to be learned. I treasure having been a witness to the closeness that existed between the Cameron and Townsend families. I will always remember his infectious laugh and his genuine zest for life. He worked hard and he played hard, but he always seemed to understand where his priorities should be. He and my aunt Arlene raised a wonderful family and I am glad they are my cousins. It is true, a bright light has gone out. I will keep him and his whole family in my thoughts and prayers and I will remember all the good memories that he helped create in my life and for others. - Posted by: Philip Townsend (Nephew) on: Nov 07, 2015
