JACOB LOUIS HENTELEFF November 26, 1955 - October 21, 2015 Jacob (Cobber) Louis Henteleff died suddenly, at home on Monday, October 21, 2015. He was 59. Jacob is survived by his life partner Linda Klimack and her family; his father Paul; his siblings Marke, Sybil, Harry, Alexandra and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Nel and his sister Saskia. Jacob was born in Winnipeg, the first of six children. He attended the University of Manitoba and graduated with a degree in law. He was called to the bar and worked as a lawyer for a number of years. He and Linda met spring of 1981 and have had a committed and loving relationship. He left law to follow what turned out to be his true passion, that of shopkeeper, working with Linda at Scoop N' Weigh. Cobber was an avid reader, a great storyteller and had an incredible memory for details. In a game of Trivial Pursuit once, he answered every single question correctly right into the winners circle, no one else had a turn. In recent years Cobber and Linda travelled together, to London for theater, camping in Boseman, Montana and closer to home to the Farm near Decker, Manitoba. In accordance with Cobber's stated preference, his life will be celebrated in a private ceremony with only family in attendance. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the English Gardens for a bench. (Contact the Assiniboine Park Conservancy (204- 927-8080).

  • Linda , Harry , Alex & Family . I was shocked to hear of "Kobber" ' s passing . He was one of the most intelligent and interesting people I have had the honour of meeting . His gift of memory ( and incredibly enjoyable story telling ) will be fondly remembered by me . I was fortunate to have known him . - Posted by: sheldon genthon (friend) on: Nov 07, 2015

  • Sincere condolences to Linda and all of Jacob's family. I am profoundly saddened to learn of his untimely passing. Though I am just a customer, he felt like a friend. He truly did make everyone who entered Scoop ... feel special. He brought joy, grace and civility to every encounter, often reciting poetry to me (beautifully). He was an exceptional man; gentle, erudite and delightfully witty; I will remember him always with great fondness. He shone a bright light on life and the art of living fully. He made a difference to me and to the world around him. With heartfelt sympathy for your great loss. - Posted by: Jane (Customer) on: Nov 01, 2015

  • What a shock to visit Scoop 'N' Weigh last week and be told of Jacob's passing. So often I enjoyed a short chat with longer ones when Agnes needed to play. And so often, he asked not about my life but "Where's Agnes". She joins me in expressing our sincere condolences - Posted by: IVAN BERKOWITZ (CUSTOMER) on: Oct 30, 2015

  • Dear Linda and family, We were so very sorry to hear of your loss. You and Jacob (Cobber) were an awesome team, an inspiration, "a very special couple" together in your business at Scoop n' Weigh and as wonderful life partners. Jacob helped us immensely with his excellent tips on how to make the best fruitcakes and other great treats. He was always such a joy to be around. We loved his stories and his quick wit. We'll really miss him. Our sincere condolences. Ingrid & Ray Bodnaruk. - Posted by: Ray & Ingrid Bodnaruk (Friends of Linda & Jacob at Scoop n Weigh) on: Oct 27, 2015

  • Dear Linda. We are so very shocked and saddened by this news. We didn't know Jacob's name or nickname. We just always thought of him as 'Mr. Scoop N Weigh', always ready with a smile, a helpful suggestion, or news of something delicious we should know about. It is only because of him that there are three (yes...three!) Christmas cakes maturing in our basement pantry because two Christmases ago 'Mr. S' encouraged my husband to become a baker, talking him through the recipe, and helping him to find all the ingredients. Last Christmas he introduced me to 'Sugar Plums' with almost childlike delight, and I was smitten, and took my little bag of heaven home to savour. What a sad sad loss this is for all of us. He was a very special man. Our hearts go out to you, Linda. Sincerely, from Zyna and Alex Boyes. - Posted by: Zyna and Alex Boyes ( grateful customers) on: Oct 27, 2015

  • It is rare that you find someone with his qualities, once you step in and he sees you, he acknowledges you, I cannot tell you how comforting that makes a shopper feels. Although I was just a customer, I will miss him as I loved that he treated everyone as special. I am yet to walk in another store and feel as welcomed as I do every time I walk into Scoop and Weigh. Hearing his stories about how he come to purchase a product was always interesting. My condolence to Linda and the staff. - Posted by: Sharon (Customer) on: Oct 27, 2015

  • Ancient Egyptians believed that upon death they would be asked two questions and their answers would determine whether they could continue their journey in the afterlife. The first question was, "Did you bring joy?" The second was, "Did you find joy?" ~ Leo Buscaglia It was obvious to all who shared in the experience of Scoop ’n Weigh that Jacob met both standards! My husband and I loved Scoop ’n Weigh, in part, because of the atmosphere of energy and spirit which Jacob and Linda imbued into the store. Not only did Jacob know about everything in their store, it was a rare occasion if he did not enrich our visit with a story, quote; and if we were lucky enough a song! Jacob, may your journey be blessed with remembrances of love and happiness and with the anticipation of new beginnings. - Posted by: Nadja and AJ Fernando (Admirers ) on: Oct 25, 2015

  • Whenever we visited the shop Tom and he would discuss various writers such as Thomas Babington Macaulay and favorite passages of poetry while I browsed and admired the lovely array of goods, chosen with good taste and for good taste. What a pity to lose such a fine man. Our sympathies go out to the family. - Posted by: tTom and Nydia Peterson (Scoop and Weigh friends) on: Oct 24, 2015

  • Cobber was a sweetheart. He studied with me; we became friends; he introduced me to a new world of rapid-fire. Sadly missed. - Posted by: Michael Feld (Prof, friend) on: Oct 24, 2015

  • Dear Linda, Paul, Marke, Sybil, Harry, Alexandra, and all the family, I am so very sorry to hear this terrible news, so unexpected, so sad for a man still young, still so full of life. I pray for you all, that you will hold one another in peace and in love as you mourn. Even so, may Jacob rest in peace. Sincerely, Paul+ - Posted by: The Very Rev. Paul N. • Dear Linda and Family; we were so saddened to hear this news. We so enjoyed shopping at Scoop n' Weigh while we lived in Winnipeg and Headingley, and we enjoyed sharing coffee and stories with you and Jacob here in Bozeman, when you came to vacation. We were looking forward to the time you would retire here, and hoped we could be good friends. What terrible news; our hearts are heavy. Our prayers go out for you. - Posted by: Cora and Jeff Nelson (Bozeman Friends) on: Oct 24, 2015
