RAECHEL MICHELLE (MIMI) PHILLIPS (nee HAYES) October 29, 1967 - October 21, 2015 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Raechel Michelle Phillips on October 21, 2015 at the age of 47. Raechel was a devoted wife, mother, sister, auntie and friend. She leaves behind her husband Mike of twenty years, and her three children, Brett (Jeremy), Crystal (Robert) and Marie who were her pride and joy. She also leaves behind her loving parents Jack and Claire Hayes, sister Shaun (Donald), brother-in-law Craig (Darlene) and her nieces and nephew Shauna, Samantha, and CJ. Raechel was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on October 29, 1967 and moved to Winnipeg in 1970 where she attended Angus Mckay Elementary School, John Henderson Junior High School and Miles MacDonell High School. After graduation she worked for VAW Systems for 20 years. She later graduated with honours in Health Care Aide and Unit Assistant courses and subsequently worked at Health Sciences Centre where she was dedicated to providing care to the patients and helping others. She had a deep love of animals which she expressed with her dogs and cats and had dreamed of being a Marine Biologist. Raechel was an avid Winnipeg Jets fan and enjoyed watching the games with her husband and calling her dad after to re-hash. She had a wonderful, albeit quirky sense of humour and enjoyed sharing jokes with her mother, family and friends. Shopping and outings with her mother were always a special treat. But her greatest joy came from spending time with her husband and children from whom she was taken from much too soon. She will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St. in Winnipeg. Date and time to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Winnipeg Pet Rescue No-Kill Animal Shelter http://www.petrescueshelter.com/help-now/donate/ Or Health Sciences Centre Foundation: https://hscf.thankyou4caring. org/donate HSCF

  • My condolences to Mike and children and Mr. and Mrs. Hayes and Shaun. Mimi and I were friends from the age of 10 but unfortunately lost touch after high school. She was such a doll and I loved spending time with her - Mimi and I had some good laughs over the years. We went to school together as well as Sunday school at St. Al's. I have tons of wonderful memories of Mimi, especially when we were small: her nail polish collection, her great birthday parties and her sense of humour. It breaks my heart to know that she's gone. Mike, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your children. - Posted by: Krystyl Harland (Nickarz) (Friend) on: Oct 26, 2015

  • To the Phillips and Hayes family we are very saddened to hear of the loss of your beautiful Michelle. I worked at VAW there I met a very kind and extremely funny Michelle. She graciously offered to do my make up for me on my wedding day. I looked so beautiful on that day because of Michelle. Her stories of her daily family life were famous to all the girls in the office. We laughed many times together over the years. Even though we lost touch, I always thought of her often. One of a kind heart and spirit. I will have very fond memories. So sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Frances & Paul Rowles (co- worker and friend from VAW Systems) on: Oct 26, 2015

  • I've known Mimi for many, many years. She used to babysit for me when my daughter Jaylene was little and then when my daughter was older she babysat for Mimi and Mike. I always thought of Mimi as a quiet girl, and loved her quirkiness. She was such a dear! She will be sadly missed by many people. Mike, Brett, Crystal and Marie - I am so very sorry for your loss - it's so very tragic! Mr. & Mrs. Hayes: - You should never have to bury your child - I'm so very sorry for your loss. Sister Shaun & Family - to lose a sister is like losing a child - I'm so very sorry for your loss! May you all know you are in my thoughts and prayers. Our Condolences are with you all during this terribly sad time. - Posted by: Wendy Zilli (Friend) on: Oct 26, 2015

  • Dear Mike, Brett, Crystal, Marie and family...our deepest condolences in the loss of Michelle. She was a very beautiful and caring woman, always friendly and willing to help in any way. We have known Michelle for over 20 years and have shared many memories with her. Working with Michelle at VAW created a friendship that extended to many social gatherings including weddings, birthdays and company events. We were honoured to attend her wedding day. Michelle was giving of herself, she offered to babysit our children and later on our daughter Desiree babysat Brett and Crystal. One of our fondest memories was when we hosted a backyard party where we danced the night away, Michelle wore her signature high heels, the music was pumping and into the wee hours of the night, the police crashed the party. Michelle's kindness and generosity came through when I mentioned to her about all the holes in our grass, she wanted to come over and fix it. I said to her my grass needed the aeration and offered to pay her to come back the following year. We had some good times and she didn't mind being teased. Even though we haven't been in touch for awhile, she was always in our thoughts...Larry and Darlene Boitson and family. - Posted by: Larry Boitson (Friend) on: Oct 25, 2015
