Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMELVIN ROBERT CAIRNS Aged 87 and longtime resident of Ajax, ON, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2015. He is survived by Doreen Joyce (Birmingham), his loving and devoted wife of 63 years. Survived and fondly remembered by his children, Lenor (Steve Tough), Darlene (Remi Deraiche), Sharon (Harold Novotny - predeceased) and Curtis (Denise). Grandfather to Natalie, Sarah, Aislinn and Brett. Great-grandfather to Hannah and Nicholas. Survived by only one sibling, Olive (Joe Torchia - predeceased). Predeceased by his siblings and their spouses: Elsie (Vic Stertz), Walter (Pat), Doris (Morris Crowe), Eileen (Ed Dermody). Dad was born in Cartwright, MB on February 9, 1928 to the late Edward and Lilly (McKelvey) Cairns. Dad worked for the Manitoba Highway's Branch in the 1950s and then Ontario Hydro in 1956. Dad retired from Ontario Hydro while at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station as their Chief Warehouseman in September 1986. Dad spent his retirement years enjoying the simple pleasures like Mom's loving company, working in the yard, watching his favourite sports - hockey and baseball, taking the occasional Florida trip and visiting family. Dad is interned in St. Anthony's Crypt at Mount Lawn Cemetery in Whitby, ON.
