ANTON REPKA It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved dad and husband, Anton (Antun) Repka on Thursday, August 6, 2015 in Rijeka, Croatia. He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Marija, son Damir, daughter Barbara, son-in-law Mirko, as well as numerous friends and family in Canada and Croatia. Dad was born in Markovac (Nasice), Croatia on July 28, 1938 and immigrated to Canada in 1968 and made Winnipeg his home. He was a dedicated employee of Empire Iron Works for nearly 40 years before retiring in May of 2004. He always dreamt of returning to his homeland one day and once he retired, he spent nearly every summer in his beloved Croatia enjoying the beautiful Adriatic coastline that meant so much to him. Dad was a hardworking man his entire life and was happiest when he could tackle a project where he could build, fix or create something with his hands, anything from inventing garden tools, making his own wine or rebuilding classic cars. He valued hard work, honesty and determination above all else and always taught his children to do the same, for which we will be forever grateful. Dad often reminded us that despite the challenges of arriving in Canada with only one suitcase, not speaking a word of English and with a limited education, he worked hard, persevered and achieved his "Canadian dream" and was able to provide a good life for his family. Cremation has taken place and interment will be held at a later date. Donations in Anton's memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Pocivaj u miru bozjem.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Long time ago and never forgotten. Today I checked the name of my uncle and this result gets me again tears in my eyes. My uncle was a great role model for me in many things. God bless my aunt, my cousins and the rest of the family. - Posted by: Mario (Nephew ) on: Aug 17, 2022

  • To the Repka family; So sorry for your loss. May you be comforted by all your memories. I remember meeting him many times as a child in his garage in the Maples, or when Barb had the bunny in the backyard and he taught me how to feed it. A wonderful man who built a wonderful family. Sending thoughts, prayers, and love. - Posted by: Renata Kasunic ((Friend)) on: Nov 05, 2015

  • Danny, we are so very sorry to hear of your dad's passing. He was such a nice man. I'll never forget the first time I met you and your dad at Drag City. You guys were talking amongst yourselves in Croatian and when you asked me a question in English, I answered you in Croatian. Your jaws dropped and we have been friends ever since. Your dad will be missed. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. - Posted by: Mike and Laura Medven (friends of Danny's) on: Nov 02, 2015
