JUDITE ORFAO MCLEOD
Date of Passing: Nov 03, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJUDITE ORFAO MCLEOD (nee GONCALVES) It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Judite Orfao McLeod, NP RN on November 3, 2015, after a brief illness, at Foothills Hospital in Calgary, at the age of 50 years. Judite was predeceased by her husband James McLeod. Judite leaves to mourn: her children; Carina, Johnathon, Laurana, her life partner John Riddell and his children Catharine and Robert. Also her mother Relinda, (her father Françisco deceased), brother Baldwin, his partner Marsha, brother in law John McLeod and family, dear friend Melani Gillam and her family, many cousins, uncles and aunts of the Gonçalves, Governo and Gomes families, and many friends and relatives in Canada and Portugal. Judite was a lifelong learner who got her start in nursing in Toronto. She then moved back home to Winnipeg to begin a long and successful career at Health Sciences Centre, where she made many lifelong friends. It was through one of these friends that she met James; they fell in love, got married and started a family. Family was everything to Judite; she loved to spend time with her children who were the centre of her world. After the passing of James in 2009, Judite faced every challenge with strength and determination. Most recently she completed her Masters of Nursing, registered as a Nurse Practitioner, and was looking forward to practicing in Calgary. Judite met John Riddell, and they had a wonderful relationship that in September 2015, led Judite and Laurana to move to Calgary to begin a new chapter of their lives. Unfortunately their time together was short, but Judite had found love for a second time in her life. Judite touched many lives throughout her nursing career, and will be remembered as a talented, kind, and loving person. In accordance with Judite's wishes and that of her Jewish Faith, funeral services will be at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Monday, November 9 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book, please visit our website. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715

I was saddened to hear of Judite’s death. We were very good friends during our school years (Hugh John MacDonald and Daniel McIntyre in Winnipeg). Unfortunately we both went our separate ways and lost touch with one another. Judite was a wonderful friend, very kind and generous, I treasure every moment that we spent together. She will be greatly missed. My most sincere condolences to the family. Rest in Peace my dear friend. - Posted by: Manuela Santos (nee Prazeres) (Portugal) (Friend) on: Dec 29, 2015

Heartfelt condolences to Judite's family in this sudden and huge loss. Judite was a kind, endearing and intelligent woman. She was a wonderful caring nurse and a sweet and warm friend. Judite loved her family with ALL her heart and was so proud of them. Heaven has another angel who will keep watch over all of you, and she will be with you always. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time and in times to come. - Posted by: Myrna Childs (FRIEND & previously a co-worker at OESH / HSC) on: Nov 09, 2015

To the family-I was sad to hear the news. I had the pleasure of working with Judite. I will always remember her compassion as well as expertise in endocrinology, diabetes and education. One fond memory was Judite leaving work, her backpack stuffed with a large chicken she had purchased from a client for a special family occasion. (She had me buy one too!) She'll be missed. To Melanie&family-Regrets on the loss of your best friend. You were always there when Judite needed your love, guidance or emotional support. Judite's life was a blessing. Fond memories to treasure. Loved beyond words. Missed beyond measure. - Posted by: janie Goodman Hygaard ( co-worker) on: Nov 09, 2015

Judite will be greatly missed by the whole team at NorWest and her clients. JUDITE was our NP student and later staff member. She showed compassion, dedication, and respect in her daily work as a nurse practitioner. She had a special touch supporting clients with diabetes. Our team was greeted daily with her smile and candy. Judite and her family will be in our thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Renata Cook (NorWest colleague and friend) on: Nov 09, 2015

I met Judite while working at HSC. She quickly became a wonderful friend. Judite was kind, friendly and hard working, but it was her love for her family that shined through her eyes and her heart. We shared many of laughs and tears. My heart is broken to lose such a dear friend and I will miss her tremendously. - Posted by: Anita Bourgeois (Friend) on: Nov 09, 2015

I met Judite through my good friend John Riddell on the few times I visited Winnipeg in the past few years but she left a lasting impression as a warm lovely person who I would like to have known better. I have learned that my friend John was very much in love with Judite. I send my condolences and sympathy to Judite's family and friends. - Posted by: Jay Stuart (Friend) on: Nov 08, 2015

I had the great pleasure of training Judite in pediatric care when she was a nurse practitioner student. She was an excellent student and very hard worker. She was extremely caring and I had no doubt would make an excellent nurse practitioner. She was one of the finest students I ever had. Judite had overcome so many obstacles. This is a great loss. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Barry Bermack (Pediatrician, her preceptor for pediatric training for the nurse practitioner program.) on: Nov 08, 2015
