D. MARIE JARDINE 1927 - 2015 Peacefully, surrounded by her family, Marie Jardine passed away on November 4, 2015 at the age of 88 years. She is survived by her children, Cindy (Errol), Scott (Barb), and Janet (Kelvin); and grandson Zachary. She also leaves behind her sister Janet; nephews, David, Eric and Paul; nieces, Elaine, Elizabeth, Jennifer and Judy; step-granddaughters, Terra and Tamara; and their families. Marie was predeceased by her husband Archie; parents Merlin and Jenny; sister Phyllis and niece Patricia. Marie was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on August 18, 1927, the eldest of three daughters. In 1948 she met the love of her life, Archie Jardine, and they were romantically married on Valentine's Day 1949. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Archie's home province of Manitoba. Marie worked for the federal government until the birth of her children. She was then a devoted wife and mother for many years. When the children all graduated high school, she returned to work for the provincial government, working long enough to proudly earn her own pension. The family resided primarily in Winnipeg, spending a brief period in Dauphin. After retirement, Marie and Archie split their time between their beloved cottage on Barren Lake and Dunedin, FL. In recent years, they relocated back to Winnipeg. Marie and Archie loved to travel. When the family was young, this involved wonderful trips in the family station wagon accompanied by the singing of many songs. Later trips included Great Britain, China and Indonesia Marie loved music. She was a proficient piano player, and enthusiastic singer. Marie was very energetic, and could walk a shopping mall at breakneck speed. She was also very outgoing, telling anyone who would listen that she was from New Brunswick. Marie was the best of mothers, always loving and supportive of her children. She was also a wonderful mother to all of their friends who needed a warm hug, sympathetic ear, and a home baked cookie. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the caring, compassionate and respectful staff at Lion's Manor. The funeral will be held on Monday November 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Bardal's Funeral Home, 842 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, with reception to follow (parking behind funeral home). There will be a private interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie's name to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Dear Cindy, Scott, Janet and extended family. Please accept our sympathy in your loss. Your mom was such an amazing woman.....intelligent and fun!!! I grew up on Greene ave. in East Kildonan, in Winnipeg. My sister Jan and Cindy became great friends at elementary school, and as a result, both of our families began spending time together! We travelled to Dauphin, visited and we were welcomed with open arms, and great hugs. We had lots of fun and I have very fond memories. The last time I saw your mom and dad was at our home, when we celebrated my parents 50th wedding anniversary. It was such a pleasure to have them there!!!!! I pray that your wonderful memories of your mom keep you at peace!!! - Posted by: EILEEN TISSOT(nee Hinchey) - and husband Gerry. (Friends of the family.) on: Nov 14, 2015

  • Janet and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom was always so nice to me when I was little. She always gave me a glass of my favourite "beep" drink when I was at your house. Saying good bye to parents is the painful midlife secret that no one warns you about... Take care, with hugs, Roz 😢 - Posted by: Roz Rigas (Pearson) (Janet's childhood friend) on: Nov 11, 2015

  • I remember the first time I met the family - it was Christmas (around 1970) and I was kind of nervous. Your Mom & Dad put me right at ease almost immediately. We spent a wonderful evening singing Christmas carols & snacking on the wonderful goodies Marie had so lovingly prepared. I felt so accepted and I hadn't even married Archie's step brother yet. Marie gave us an open invitation to drop in anytime. We visited a number of times (regrettably not enough) and we were always greeted with open arms and treated to Marie's excellent cooking. Good memories. a - Posted by: Chris Milloy (Step sister in law) on: Nov 09, 2015
