Because of Chickie's business, of bringing discount clothes to his customers, & his amazing memory, as to what size & what style would look good on each customer, & his buying up 1-of-a-kind items, from modeling shows for buyers, I was able to be dressed in unique clothes from about grade 6, thru Jr & Sr High, & later, as a young teacher, was able to buy suits & accessories that were terrific, but, at my budget. I also had learned that when he suggested something, I needed to buy it, because he was never wrong about what would look good on me. You knew by the lilt in his voice that he was a singer, & a natural, too. I felt bad that while he was able to get work as a singer, he'd never been "discovered" as was the case with an aunt of mine, about Chickie's age, who had been a polio victim in the epidemic in Winnipeg in '52, before making a big break. I guess I felt bad for him because of my aunt's experience. Also, Chickie's roots were in Russia, her's in the Ukraine. I always liked Chickie not only for the good deals in clothing that he brought, but, because of his always upbeat nature & again, that smooth, musical voice. I had just been thinking of him again recently & finally took a moment to search if he might have passed on by now. I was surprised that his passing was so recent & saddened that we'd never connected since he left the 'Peg. I'm sure that there are many who feel the same way. My condolences to his family & friends. - Posted by: Bruce Yarrow (former customer of many years) on: Dec 25, 2015

I knew Maurice his wife Phyllis and their youngest daughter Suzie when they lived in a house on Leila avenue just east off Main street. I dated their daughter Margaret for quite a few years. The whole family was always very nice to me.I was not aware of the death of any of the family until today, for I lived in a different part of the country.I send my condolences to those who remain. Dear Susan, As a nieghbour of your mom and dad's I have incredibly fond memories of them both. I have always given credit to your dad's Dress Parties for giving me the love of fashion at an early age and a career in such many years later. I would joke with my mom (who passed in Jan 2013), that I grew up to be Mr. Zamick! I have read your dad's full obituary with delight. A talented wonderful gentleman! - Posted by: Adele Deegan ( Hawkins) (Former neighbour on Leila Ave) on: Nov 07, 2015
