GILBERT EARL BROWN It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Gilbert Earl Brown of Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 30, 2015 at the Victoria Hospital. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 54 years Beverly; his four children, Nancy (Ed) Classen of London, Ontario, Stuart (Connie), Dean (Cathy), and Kevin (Debbie) of Winnipeg; and his grandchildren Kyle, Ryan, Krista Brown, and Claire Coppens all of Winnipeg, and Jordan and Hannah Classen of London, Ontario, all of whom he was so proud of, and generously gave his love and much knowledge to. Earl is also survived by brothers-in-law Murray Foss, and Leroy Dammann, sisters-in-law Donna Brown and Jean Foss, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Olive and Gilbert Brown, brother Keith, brother-in-law Elwood Foss, sisters-in-law Eileen Dammann and Enid Stewart. Earl was born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba on May 1, 1937. Earl completed elementary and high school in Kelloe and Carberry, Manitoba, and then went on to attend Normal School from 1954 to 1955. His teaching career started in Austin and Carberry, and later moved to Winnipeg, where he taught for the St. Vital School Division until 1974. It was then that Earl made the move into sales, first working for Cunningham Business Interiors for several years before proceeding to industrial chemical sales for Diversey until he retired in 1992. During the years his children were in school many of Earl's weekends and holidays were spent at Nutimik and Dorothy Lake in the Whiteshell. Days were filled with camping, swimming, fishing, boating and playing cards. His winter sport was curling. Oh so much fun was had with best friends, only to then come home like a block of ice. Earl and Bev were very fortunate to have a winter home in Weslaco, Texas for 20 years. During their time there, their days were spent enjoying a variety of activities including golf, swimming, playing shuffleboard and cards, lots of penny poker games! Earl enjoyed being an organizer, and volunteered countless hours supervising the kitchen and running bingo for a number of years in the retirement park where he and Bev had their home. Many friends and good memories were made. Earl was also a member of the Elks, and was very dedicated to the program for hearing impaired children. As the years passed Earl was very involved with the planning of many Normal School reunions. He was a tireless, committed member of any committee he was on. He loved to visit and reminisce of times at Normal School, and what his classmates had accomplished over the years. All of the reunions were a good time for all. As you read this, please rejoice and reflect on all the memories you had of this great friend who enjoyed life to the fullest. His request of no funeral is honored. If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
