WALTER (WALLY) HERBERT SINGBEIL Peacefully on November 6, 2015 with his son Mark at his side, Dad joined the love of his life Flo, in eternal rest. Dad was 83 years old and fought a good fight during the last six months. Wally was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Martha, and siblings Ben, Egon, Ida, Eleanor and Julius. Remaining to cherish his memory are four children, Val and Doug Collicutt, Sharon and Ron Stelmaschuk, Mark Singbeil and Janice Claridge, and Jeff Singbeil. Dad was also Grampa to six grandchildren, Adam, Dan, Scott, Katie, Blake, and Sarah. Wally is also survived by two sisters-in-law; Joyce Barr and Donna Slaney, and nieces and nephews Louise, Marlene, Margaret, Henry, Irene, Frank, Willy, Patty, Tim, Cindy, Bonnie and their extended family. Wally was born in Winnipeg on April 7, 1932 and grew up in central Winnipeg on Henry Avenue and Isabel Street. During his childhood he spent many summers visiting relatives on the family farms around Beausejour and Grand Beach, worked at several stores in Grand Marais, and delivered papers for the Free Press. Upon graduation from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate, he met Flo and they were married on December 10, 1955. After moving from Winnipeg to Edmonton, Regina and back to Winnipeg, they settled in Transcona. Dad worked for Westfair Foods for 14 years, then Air Canada for almost 25 years, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed his driving trips to L.A., Banff and Jasper, Mt. Rushmore, B.C., Newfoundland and many trips to Grand Forks and Fargo with Mom and the family. Dad had many interests over the years including hunting, fishing, bowling, beer and wine making, curling, target shooting, and driving to Grand Beach, Cooks Creek, Beausejour and Star Lake. Family was important to Dad and together he and Mom were always part of the kids and grandkids activities; including sporting events, dirt biking, hockey games, dance recitals, band concerts, school plays, and shooting pool, pucks and guns. The family would like to extend our deepest thanks to the staff and caregivers at Concordia Place during the past eleven months. Their care and compassion during his time there was greatly appreciated. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day St. The service will terminate at the Chapel with interment to be announced at a later date. Those wishing to share memories of Wally will have an opportunity to speak during the service. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, or a charity of one's choice.
