HAZEL LEITKIE April 22, 1922 - St. Vital, Manitoba October 26, 2015 - Calgary, Alberta Hazel (Whicker) Leitkie, our beloved mother, and wife to Chuck passed away on Monday, October 26, 2015 at the age of 93 years. Hazel was born in Winnipeg and was the youngest child of the Whicker family of St. Vital, her siblings being George, May (Linton), Rosa (Seabrooke) and Ivy (Ellingham). She is survived by her daughters Heather Leitkie and Doreen Kowal (Bob). Hazel was the much loved Gran to Tyler and Trevor Kowal. Hazel and Chuck were married in 1943 and after Chuck completed service overseas and his Forestry degree at UBC in Vancouver, they returned to Winnipeg and built a house in Fort Garry. Over the years Hazel and Chuck participated in square dancing with the Circle 4 and Cardinal Eights clubs. They attended St. Paul's Anglican Church where Hazel was an active member of the Anglican Women's Club, and were members of the Wildewood Club, Winnipeg Winter Club and the Reh-Fit Centre. She also enjoyed concerts and attended many performances by the Winnipeg Symphony. In 2006, following the passing of Chuck, Hazel relocated to Calgary. She was a keen bridge player, and played at the Woodcreek Seniors bridge afternoons. Hazel was an avid reader, followed world affairs and enjoyed essays in the national papers. She loved to be out and about and especially enjoyed her walks at Fish Creek Park in Calgary and many walks with Chuck in La Barriere Park in St. Norbert. We are so thankful for all the happy times, caring family and special friends. Hazel will be deeply missed by her family.
