Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERHARD PAUL LUEDTKE August 7, 1935 - November 14, 2015 It is with great sadness we say goodbye to a very special man. With his wife and daughter at his side, Dad took his last breath. Gerhard Paul was born in Berlin, Germany. Along with one brother and two sisters he came to Canada in 1953 settling in Winnipeg. Here he met his wife of 55 years, became a proud father and built a good life for his family. After 35 years at Canada Packers, most of his retirement years were spent between Vernon, BC and his beloved cottage at Betula Lake. Although he had travelled to various scenic locations in the world, no place could match his happiness and contentment of cottage life. He always found something to putter, fix, paint or build. Wood was chopped to keep the cottage toasty; fish caught to his heart's content and leisurely games of chess were played. In 2006 he and his wife returned to Manitoba choosing Lockport as the place to call home. Always drawn to water views, many hours were spent on the balcony, with coffee and a good book taking pleasure in the beautiful river scenery. Lockport was the perfect spot as it was located between the two things that gave him the most joy - his children in Winnipeg and the cottage in the Whiteshell. Gerhard Paul is survived by his caring wife, Ursula, daughter Susan (Patrick), son Gerhard John (Tracy), grandchild Kristin, sisters Elisabeth, Ingrid, Waltraud (Richard), brothers Manfred (Rosi), Erich (Tilly), close sister-in-law Irma (Günther), nieces and nephews in Germany and Canada. The family wishes to thank the staff at Selkirk General Hospital for their care. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will take place at a later date. We keep his memories in our hearts and miss him every day. Husband and Father Who worked so hard For what we have today; At anytime would sacrifice His chance to rest and play. Who always saw his children have The things he did without, Gave so much unselfishly That's what he was about. Who sought no honours, no rewards For all that he had done, A gentle, quiet man, The very best one. Though we cannot measure His love or his worth, To us he'll always be The greatest guy on earth. "Onkel" Gerhard was a part of my life for as long as I can remember. We had many family gatherings with my parents, brothers and Tante Ursel, Gerhard and Susan for dinners, Christmases, and summers. I remember with love his warm heart, funny sense off humour and gentle spirit. I can't begin to count the number of times he pulled us around Betula Lake on water skis or wake boards (sometimes forever trying to get me up). He was always so patient with me, from the time I was little to adulthood. Although I didn't see him much in the past few years, I always knew he was there and will miss him very much. - Posted by: Judy Fowler (and Rick) (Considered him Onkel Gerhard for all my life) on: Dec 02, 2015
