IDA LAIDLAW Ida Laidlaw was born on March 4, 1927 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the Grace Hospital, at the age of 88 years, following a bout of pneumonia. Left to cherish Ida's spirit is her daughter, Kara. She is now reunited with her beloved parents, Harry and Anna Rose Gill; her retired Canadian soldier husband, Joseph Kirby Laidlaw; and siblings, Rose, Ted and Harry. When I was a teenager my mom, Ida, was known as the "cool mom" - whenever any of my teenaged gal pals would have a disagreement with her mom, she'd come over to my place and vent to my mom. My mom had an impish sense of humour and a fondness for men in uniform, especially firefighters, whom she taught me to never refer to as "firemen". She looked up at one handsome and capable young nursing student in 3 North of Grace Hospital and said, rather sleepily, "you handsome devil". My mom was also affectionately known as "Ida Know" to the caring staff of 2 East at Deer Lodge Centre. In compliance with Ida's wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. Thank you so much to my cousins Betty and Linda, and my good friend of decades Carmen and her lovely daughters for being there to visit with my mom and I while she was still able to "feel the love". Thank you also to the caring staff of 3 North at Grace Hospital for taking such skilled and compassionate care of my beloved mother in her final weeks.
