MARY BANACK (nee DEREWIANKO) Peacefully on Saturday, November 21, 2015 Mom passed away with her family by her side. Mary was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 10, 1924 and it was always a weekend celebration around Thanksgiving Day. Mom was predeceased by her mother Dora on February 17, 1970, father William Derewianko on October 28, 1972, her brothers Alexander on January 12, 1978, John, February 9, 2002, Michael on February 18, 2005, her daughter Barbara, April 17, 2009, and her loving husband Charles on August 15, 2015. She leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory her two daughters Carole (Don), Darlene (Keith), grandchildren Kristy (Christopher), Karen (Jarett), David, Daniel (Brittany), Raina (Chase), and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Logan. Mom grew up in the North End of Winnipeg near Selkirk Avenue. She did not move far when she and Charlie married on August 23, 1947. Both were proud North Enders all their lives. In her early working life Mom worked for Hecht Furriers and once the children came she became a homemaker. Mom loved to cook, bake and entertain. She was an avid bowler for 15 years and achieved a couple of trophies. Mom always took pride in her attire and her natural beauty was only highlighted by lipstick. Mom was a social butterfly and loved to talk and engage in people's lives. She had a quick wit and an infectious laugh. She doted on her grandchildren, attending concerts and sporting events, and adored her great-grandchildren. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff at the Maples Personal Care Home for their dedicated service especially in Mom's final days as she was treated with the utmost care and dignity. Many thanks to Dr. Norm Hechtenthal for the many years of dedicated care.
