MADELINE DREILICK
Born: Nov 15, 1922
Date of Passing: Nov 21, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMADELINE DREILICK It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Madeline, peacefully in her sleep, early on the morning of Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Seven Oaks Hospital. She had recently turned 93. Madeline will be greatly missed by her son, Sheldon Dreilick and her daughter, Sharon Dreilick, and also leaves to mourn numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, John Brady and Rose Meter Brady, along with sisters Eleanor (Andrew), Lillian (Gray), Syliva (Hamilton), Dorothy (Schulz) and Ruth (Schultz), and brother Walter Brady, as well as her husband, Arnold Dreilick, who passed away in 1985. Born in Winnipeg on November 15, 1922, Mom moved with her family at the age of nine and a half to a farm near Mulvihill, Manitoba, as part of the "Back to the Land" relief program. She returned to the city at the age of 16½ to pursue work. She held various jobs before becoming an employee at the book bindery, Stovel-Advocate Publishing, for over a decade until marrying at age 32 and becoming a dedicated homemaker. Madeline had enthusiastically pursued a number of interests over the years, whether curling, roller skating and bike-riding during her younger days, or sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking, 5-pin bowling and summertime lawn bowling later on. She had a fondness for cats, flowers, old radio shows and movies, word search puzzles, reading, easy listening music, Rainbow Stage musicals, and bus tour trips. Likewise she enjoyed attending the Fred Douglas Lodge Adult Day program from 1998 to 2006. For many years she also had been a volunteer "friend" to adults with intellectual disabilities at the Manitoba Developmental Centre in Portage la Prairie. Throughout her life, Madeline was known for her warm, loving, sweet, and joyful nature, as well as being very devoted and loyal to her family and friends. During her latter years while plagued with an assortment of ailments, including the trials and tribulations of the last six years during her affliction with dementia and with her more recent debilitating stroke, Mom demonstrated tremendous courage, spirit, and resilience. We do wish to express our heartfelt gratitude for the kindness, compassion, attentiveness, and wonderful care shown our mother by the nurses, health care aides, and doctors at Seven Oaks Hospital, particularly those on the third floor, Unit 8, where our mother resided the longest, and Unit 4 where she finished her days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Viewing will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB followed by a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.
