MARIE DOHAN Peacefully, Marie Mae Dohan passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the Concordia Place Nursing Home. She is survived by her brother Ivan (Tillie) Dohan, brother Don (Margaret) Dohan; sister-in-law Doreen Dohan, brother-in-law John Bilowus; several nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives. She was predeceased by her parents Peter and Sophie Dohan, brothers Stephen and Eugene, sister Agnes Bilowus, niece Shelley Dohan, and great-niece Erin Dohan. Marie was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years. She was a very dedicated teacher who gave 110% everyday and expected nothing less from her students. Retirement however, did not slow her down. She volunteered at the Grace Hospital for over 10 years, travelled extensively, and worked countless hours at St. Basil's church. Her involvement with the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League was extensive. She was on the board for many years, helped with fundraising and catering events. All good things must come to an end and it was a sad day when we all realized that Marie was no longer able to live her life the way she wanted. We would like to thank the staff at the Concordia Place Nursing Home for their selfless care and kindness towards Marie. It was a place of comfort for Marie and we are so very appreciative that they were able to take care of her when we no longer could. Prayer service will be held Thursday, November 26, 2015 at 7:00 p.m., at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. in Winnipeg, MB. Divine Liturgy will be officiated by Rt. Rev. Canon Walter Klimchuk on Friday, November 27, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., at St. Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 202 Harcourt Ave. Burial will take place on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 12:00 noon, at the Riverside Cemetery with Reverend Yaroslav Strukhlyak officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Marie, you can now rest, your work here is done. Vichnaya Pamyat.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • We both worked with Marie for many years at St. Basil's Church. She was always so much fun to work with. A ball of energy! Almost everyday of the week would find Marie working at the hall or out shopping looking for bargains for the church kitchen. We will miss you dear friend.
