ALICE COADY (nee FORTIN) It's with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Alice Coady on November 21, 2015 at Grace General Hospital. Alice was a beloved wife, mother, nanny, sister, and aunt. She leaves to cherish her memory: husband Jim Coady, son Ron (Ruth), daughters Lynn (Richard), and Janet, grandchildren Alana, Jonathan, and stepchildren Bill (Sandy) and Margo. She is also survived by sisters Marion and Joan, sisters-in-law Doreen and Rita, brother-in-law Claude, and numerous nieces and nephews. Alice met the second love of her life in 1985, Jim and Alice married in 1991 and started a new life together by becoming snowbirds in Phoenix, enjoying golf, playing cards, dancing, meeting new friends and travelling to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico and throughout Canada. Alice worked at and retired from Sears. She worked hard but also had a lot of fun and made many long lasting friendships with her co-workers. She took great pride in her home and always welcomed family and friends whether for a simple cup of tea or coffee, dinner or a pillow to rest their head. She took great pleasure in volunteering at Grace General Hospital for many years. She was always the first to offer help to anyone in need. Alice had a kind and gentle soul. She was a loving, dedicated wife, a sharing and committed mother, great friend and devoted Catholic. Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, November 28, 12:00 p.m. at Saint John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alice's memory may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 0K6. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Alice was so very kind to my Sister Claire and myself when we were in Winnipeg for Rick's and Lynn's wedding- God Bless and may she rest in peace - Posted by: Carolyn Lombard () on: Dec 16, 2015

  • My father Jerry and Alice are brother and sister. My father passed away a few years back. It is comforting to know that their eternal rest will be at the same location, Chapel Lawn. Our families have always had a close bond. Christmas gatherings still have fond memories for me. I remember one year of being encouraged to take a nap on Christmas Eve because the "Fortins" were going to attend Midnight Mass at John 23 Parish. Difficult for an excited pre-teen boy. I don't remember sleeping, but being absolutely exuberant when they all arrived at our house after services. Our families had a tradition of exchanging Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, alternating the households each year. This may seem trivial to some, but I'm confident Lynn, Ron, Janet, my mom Rita and sister Cindy will be able to relate. Memories are very personal, this is just one of mine. I realize this is not a direct tribute to Auntie Alice, but more about her contribution to all the lives she touched...directly or indirectly. I know you will be graciously received. All my love, Randy - Posted by: Randy stammen (Nephew) on: Nov 28, 2015

  • I'm sorry to see you've lost your mom, Janet. I remember her making us tiny little pancakes in the morning after sleepovers. She put up with a lot and always made me feel welcome. Take care. - Posted by: Cheryl Moore (Friend) on: Nov 27, 2015

  • Alice was my "other Mom", she took me in when I was 2 when my own Mom passed away she called me her little girl. Alice was one of the kindest, most compassionate and loving lady. One of her many talents was an awesome seamstress. MY dear most loving Aunt you didn't have an easy life, your Stairway to Heaven was built a long time ago. Rest in Peace, I will miss you so very much, My heart is broken with my loss of you. You touched everyone and will be dearly missed by all. - Posted by: Diane Fortin (Niece) on: Nov 26, 2015
