Date of Passing: Nov 21, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEMMA (AMY) STEELE It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dear mother Amy Steele, with family at her bedside, on November 21, 2015. Amy was predeceased by her husband Larry in 2008. Born in Togo, Saskatchewan on May 29, 1929, Amy is survived by her son Douglas (Judy) Steele, daughter Heather (Dave) Fraser, sisters, Lydia Wuerch and Alma (Ernie) Streilein, sister-in-law, Bonnie Winick, grandchildren Trenton Opaloch (Robin Hayes), Brooke (Matt) Heximer, great-grandchildren, Ella and Mia Heximer, and numerous nieces and nephews. She came from a large family of 12 siblings and came to Winnipeg when she was 10 years old. She married Larry, the love of her life, on June 24, 1950. They left Winnipeg as Dad joined the Canadian Air Force for 10 years and was stationed in Halifax, Newfoundland and Cold Lake, Alberta and returned to Winnipeg in 1961. She loved playing sports and until her passing was an avid sports fan from baseball, football (both CFL and NFL), hockey, curling, basketball and even golf. Amy started her career working at Raber Gloves in Winnipeg along with her sister Alma and friend Susie and even got her son Doug to work there. Later retired, she enjoyed playing darts, gardening and was very devoted to her family. Amy came to terms with her illness with such grace and compassion for those around her. In the last two months when there was no pain we were all able to celebrate her life with her. She gave us such a gift to be able to spend that precious time together. Sincere thanks goes to Dr. Chelsea Anchikoski of Arrow Lakes Hospital, Nakusp, BC, Dr. J. Abri deBeer and staff on 2 West of Vernon Jubilee Hospital, Vernon, BC, Sunwest Aviation for bringing Mom home, and lastly Riverview Health Centre where she spent her remaining time. It is with great appreciation that we thank all of you for your kindness, care and compassion that was given to Mom each day. In lieu of flowers, please donate to any animal charity of your choice. There will be a celebration of life for Mom later in the spring of next year. She has been an inspiration to so many people and she will always be in our hearts. Love you Mom.

Thinking of Amy, as her birthday is tomorrow, and remembering how kind she was. As far back as when I was growing up with Heather, in our teens, Amy was so welcoming and always made me feel special. (I know where Heather gets that from). It was never a dull moment when Amy was around. Some of the most fun I've had was when "us girls" shared time out at the Grand Beach cabin. I was so privileged to be part of that and it will be times I will never forget. I'll also never forget Amy's smile or the sound of her laugh. As others have said, she was a great lady, and she will always have a special place in my heart. Thinking of Heather and all others who miss her too. - Posted by: Lynn Wilson (family friend) on: May 28, 2016

Aunt Emma was a very, very special lady. Her ability to laugh in difficult times, her love of family and her enthusiasm for all sports were part of what made her a joy to be around. She will be sorely missed by all. Note: Her cheesecake, which was the best, is in heaven with her. - Posted by: Jim (Nephew) on: Nov 28, 2015
