KAREN HOLROYDE (nee ORR) Her story - A life lived. Selfless, empathetic and independent, words that sum up a mother, grandmother, wife, cousin and friend who will not be easily forgotten. She was the person you wanted when you needed help with anything. The person you never required to ask, she just knew what to do and what to say. How rare to be someone that could make you feel so comfortable and loved. She touched many lives through the relationships she maintained from all over Canada, her work as a psychiatric nurse, and her ability to be active until she was ill fated with leukemia and lung cancer. It is unfair that so much life left to live was taken away so quickly. Although many of you will be overwhelmed with sadness, try and remember the positives she saw in everyday life. Thank you to CancerCare Manitoba, Health Sciences Centre Respiratory Clinic, the Home Palliative Care Nurses and staff and St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit. As per Karen's wishes, a private family gathering has been held. In lieu of flowers, please support CancerCare Manitoba. We miss you Mom. Your loving family: Mac, Marci, David, Rich, Teresa, Maren, Jesse, Bronwyn and Kayleigh.

  • Karen was my oldest cousin ( no, I'm only a few years behind). She was an inspiration for me. My mom and grandmother always said she was the bravest little girl they knew; she travelled across Canada by train alone to stay with them when she was still a child. I am thankful that I happened to be in Winnipeg to have a visit in October. She still remained one of the bravest persons I have ever known. She was still the same Karen who visited when she was 18 and was the beautiful, sophisticated blue eyed blonde who made me proud to have her as a cousin. Karen stayed with us, with baby Marci, in 1970, before our grandmother died. She said at that time that she wanted to visit grandma before she died and not come back for a funeral. I am very grateful that I had a chance to see her in October. I have always regretted that we never lived in the same city at the same time. Love and condolences to Mac, Marci and family and David and family. I love you Karen. , Cousin Judy. - Posted by: Judy Moran (Cousin) on: Dec 10, 2015

  • I'm so terribly saddened to hear about Karen's passing. She came to all my Zumba, Yoga and Barre classes for years. I knew her very well and loved having her in my classes. She was a lovely lady and we always had so much to chat about. My deepest condolences to her family. May her memory always be an inspiration to you all. - Posted by: Sharon Delbridge (Zumba/Yoga Instructor) on: Dec 09, 2015

  • I miss you so much! - Posted by: Marci (Daughter) on: Dec 08, 2015

  • Mac, Marcie & David, please except our deepest sympathy on Karen's passing. Every time I would visit she was such a delight. Those times Mac and I would work on business opportunities allowed me to chat and also meet the cats. Our prayers can be counted on. - Posted by: George & Eileen Banjavich (Friend) on: Dec 08, 2015

  • A wonderful lady who hired me for the best job I ever had. So sad!! - Posted by: Murray Radomski (co-worker) on: Dec 05, 2015

  • Karen and I were classmates in Nurses Training and roommates following so great friends for 55 years We have been there for each other through all of the highs and lows in this life journey and this is a definite low. We would look at the clock when our babies were little and decide whether it was tea or something a little stronger in the middle of the afternoon! Those were fun times in Montreal together. Many dinner parties, shopping adventures and some travel always with lots of laughter. Karen was a great compassionate listener with huge love for her family and friends. I was grateful to be able to spend time with her in these recent weeks. Much love to all of the family. - Posted by: Jan and Clare Lyall (Friend forever) on: Dec 05, 2015
