Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryH. (HAROLD) GLENN WYLIE October 15, 1927 - December 1, 2015 It is with great sadness that the Wylie family announces the passing of Glenn Wylie of Winnipeg, Manitoba, peacefully on Tuesday December 1, 2015 at Victoria General Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Glenn is survived by daughter Barbara and son-in-law Dave Taylor of Winnipeg, Manitoba; daughter Linda and son-in-law David Gill of Peoria, Illinois; and many cousins in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. He was predeceased in 1986 by his wife, the former Jean Mary Hodges, whom he met and married in Ruislip, England in September, 1953 shortly after graduating from Oxford; by his special friend Bente Cunnings in January 2007; and by his parents Greer and Margaret and Brother Malcolm. Glenn was born in Wingham, Ontario on October 15, 1927. The Wylie family farm was located in Turnberry Township just west of Lake Huron in southwestern, Ontario. Glenn graduated from Wingham High School and worked on the family farm in his younger years. Interested in biology he enrolled at the University of Toronto and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Biological Sciences. After a summer internship with Agriculture Canada he decided to specialize in entomology and enrolled at Oxford University, England where he was granted a Ph.D. degree in entomology in June 1953. He was employed for 37 years by Agriculture Canada as a research scientist specializing in the biological control of insect pests. During this time he resided in Belleville, Ontario and Bridgewater, Nova Scotia and for several years in England, France and Switzerland before transferring to the Agriculture Canada Research Station at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg in 1972. He retired from Agriculture Canada in 1987. After retirement he was a volunteer interpreter for Fort Whyte Alive and a volunteer for the Patient Services Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society. He was a member of Fort Garry United Church. Glenn had a long and productive career as a research scientist with Agriculture Canada. He made valuable research contributions to Agriculture Canada's ability to successfully cope with entomological problems in Canada. Upon retirement from Agriculture Canada, Glenn was granted lifetime honorary membership to the Entomological Society of Canada in 1987 for his outstanding contribution to the science of entomology. Glenn was also granted lifetime honorary membership to the Entomological Society of Manitoba. At the University of Manitoba, Glenn served as an Adjunct Professor in Entomology for doctoral students until his retirement in 1987. Glenn was a humble and giving man, always requesting that people call him Glenn, not Dr. Wylie. He was quick to share his time, knowledge and kindness with others. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. Many who knew Glenn after retirement, knew nothing of his academic career credentials and valuable world entomological research achievements, just that he was a good, caring and gentle man. He will always be remembered fondly and will be dearly missed. The family wishes to thank Dr. Cavers, Dr. Adam, Wendy, Michelle, Aisha, Michael, Luz, Nina and others at Victoria Hospital who cared for Dad and treated him with such respect and compassion. A memorial service will be celebrated at Fort Garry United Church located at 800 Point Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba on Monday, December 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Min-Goo Kang presiding. A private interment at Thompson in the Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made to a charity of choice in Glenn's name. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Dear Linda and David, and Barbara and David, You have my sympathy and love in the loss of your Dad, Glenn. Gordon and I were very fond of him, and of your dear Mother. We were fortunate to be in both Belleville and Winnipeg with them, and they were special friends. We also were at your weddings. After Gordon died in 1996, Glenn and I kept in touch and I shall miss hearing from him. Barbara, you taught my two oldest daughters to swim in Belleville, almost fifty years ago. I have been thinking of you today and wish I could have attended Glenn's funeral. With loving thoughts, Anne Ayre. - Posted by: Anne Ayre (widow of Gordon Ayre), Victoria, B. C.
