MARGARET (MARGE) GARNER (nee HILLIAR) On November 27, 2015, surrounded by the love of her family, Margaret (Marge) Garner passed away peacefully at the age of age 81 years, to meet her Saviour and be reunited eternally with her husband, the love of her life, Gilbert Garner. Gilbert predeceased her in 2011. Margaret was born in Ituna, Saskatchewan, and spent her young years in Selkirk, Manitoba, being raised by her maternal Grandma Bannish, Aunty Katie, Uncle John and Uncle Alec Bannish. Mom first worked outside the home at Canada Post sorting mail at Christmas time and at Hudson Bay for a period of time, she then worked at Eaton's downtown in the meat department until her retirement. She made many close friends during those years that remained friends for life. Mom had a phenomenal memory and remembered each and everyone's personal story. She will be remembered for her strong sense of family and her outgoing friendly ways. She made friends wherever she went. Mom was a wonderful homemaker and she and Dad hosted many large family gatherings throughout the years. She was renowned for her bread making and her beautiful braided loaves that graced the table of many celebrations, as did her fabulous perogies. She took great pride in her beautiful yard and outstanding flower gardens. She and Dad enjoyed camping and traveling in their trailer and motor home in their later years. Mom and Dad enjoyed the company of their many cats over the years and never refused to take in a stray or abandoned cat. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Bruce (Debbie), Steve (Laura), Terry (Ron), Mark (Mary) and Clint (Darlene), as well as her thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their gratitude to the palliative care team of 3East at Riverview Health Centre. Thank you for taking such good care of our mom and grandma. The family is also very grateful for the many kind gestures that were extended to our mother by her neighbors and friends. You will be forever in our thoughts and prayers your loving family. In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Emile Roman Catholic Church, 556 St. Anne's Road, with interment to follow at St. Vital cemetery after the reception. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in honour of Marge may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO.
