FRANCIS PATRICK DOYLE
Born: Feb 28, 1922
Date of Passing: Dec 02, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFRANCIS PATRICK DOYLE After a long and rich life, Francis Patrick Doyle passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at the age of 93. Left to mourn are his devoted children, Rosemary (Gilbert) Morier, Patricia (Peter) Melvin, Elaine (George L.) Shaver and Paul (Judy) Doyle; his 10 grandchildren, Daniel (Josée), Philippe, Alexandre and Stéphanie Morier, Theresa (Tom) White and Gregory Melvin, Patrick Shaver, Stephen and Michael Doyle and Jennifer (Mustafa) Trann as well as six great-grandchildren and numerous other family members. Born in Saint-Boniface, Manitoba on February 28, 1922, Francis Doyle completed his early studies in Winnipeg before graduating cum laude from Laval University's Faculty of Medicine. He began his family practice in Ste-Anne-des-Chênes in 1948 and retired 50 years later, having dedicated countless hours throughout his career to helping others and improving the standards of medical care in the province. He was instrumental in the establishment of the first hospital in Ste-Anne and founded the Seine River Medical Centre which continues to serve the population of south eastern Manitoba today. Dr. Doyle was active in various organizations throughout his career: he was President of the Catholic Physicians Guild of Manitoba, Catholic Health Association of Canada, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba, as well as Chair of the Board of Directors of St. Boniface General Hospital. He also helped to improve standards of education, particularly in the outlying areas of Manitoba. As Chair of the Seine River School Division and President of the Association des commissaires de langue française du Manitoba, he promoted the spread of bilingualism in the Division's schools. Dr. Doyle's interest in culture led to his appointment as a director of the CBC from 1977 and 1983. His long-standing service was recognized by his receipt of both the Order of Canada and the Order of Manitoba. In retirement Dr. Doyle wrote eight books including "A Doctor's Journey", which chronicled his life as a rural doctor, and "A Love Story", which described his extraordinary relationship with Marie-Thérèse, his wife of 51 years. To his many patients, hundreds of whom he brought into this world, Dr. Doyle was not only a compassionate healer but also a sensitive and caring listener, never stinting of his time and efforts to better the lives of those he touched. Pat Doyle was also a loving and proud father who always encouraged his children to seek the positive in life. His happiest times were spent with his family and he cherished holidays for the opportunities which they afforded to delight in travel and to share special moments together. Pat has now rejoined the love of his life, Marie-Thérèse, his lovely "bird of paradise". Prayers will be held on Wednesday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Boniface Cathedral, followed by the funeral mass on Thursday, December 10 at 11:00 a.m. in Ste-Anne's Roman Catholic Church. Dearest father, we love you and bid you adieu in the words of the immortal Bard, "Good night, sweet prince, and may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

Dr. Doyle looked after my parents and myself for many years. He guided us through 4 pregnancies and subsequent deliveries of 4 healthy sons. He continued to listen and offer advice long after his retirement. He was a true gentleman and confidant. Our region is blessed to have had him establish his medical practice and future clinic, hospital and villa develop and grow to what we have today. His memory will live on. - Posted by: Kathleen (Gillespie) Bell (former patient and family fried) on: Dec 10, 2015

Dr. Doyle was our family doctor until he retired. I remember his office in the basement of his house. He was the epitome of what a doctor should be, and he helped our family in so many ways, and was always there for us. I will never forget him. My deepest condolences to his family. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Wilma Pawluk (Bachinski) (Patient) on: Dec 08, 2015

- Posted by: Jacques et Lise Lavack () on: Dec 08, 2015

My prayers and deep sympathy are with the family and with them I give thanks for the life of a great man. Pat was a close member of our family as he worked on my father's farm for several summers. As a doctor he cared for many of my immediate family and always attended family gatherings. I appreciated his compassionate interest in others and his sensitive listening skills. He was a true Christian, a gentleman who will be remembered and missed by many. May he rest in peace...and pray for us. - Posted by: Mary Ellen King, ssa (cousin) on: Dec 07, 2015

Our deepest sympathy to the family of Dr. Doyle. He was family doctor to both of our families (Bell and Godin) from our childhood until his retirement. A most caring, considerate man who was never too busy to put your mind at ease or answer another 'dumb' question, many times going above and beyond the call of duty to do so. He made his mark on the world and leaves it and the people he cared for, better for it. He will be missed. - Posted by: Paul & Lauren Godin (Former patients) on: Dec 07, 2015

Dr Pat Doyle … I am proud to call him cousin. He brought me into the world and saved my life when I was nine years old when my appendix burst. My mother Veronica Jean Coulombe (nee King) was Pat Doyle's cousin. My sincere condolences to his family. He was a man of the world and loved his family so. In the arms of God. Back in the arms of Marie-Therese. RIP my friend. - Posted by: Corinne Gawriluk (Distant cousin) on: Dec 06, 2015

Dearest Dr. Doyle I first met you when we all came together to 500 Tache, Saint-Boniface. You very generously gifted me with your writings and I thank you for the great contribution you have given to Manitoba and to Canada. On a lighter note, you were responsible for having a mailbox put on our premises so that we would not have to walk in the cold weather to mail our letters. I continue to be in awe of such a well lived and generous life. I consider myself privileged to have known you. Sincerely, with all my heart.
