GORDON ALLAN WILLIAMS Peacefully, on Saturday, December 5, 2015, Gordon Allan Williams was Promoted to Glory at Oakview Place. He is survived by his son Jonathan; his sisters, Gail O'Malley and Debbie (Ted) Manchulenko; and his brother Derrick (Rob). He was predeceased by his mother Patricia in 1985 and his father Allan Williams in 2005. Born at the old Grace Hospital on September 28, 1948, Gord lived his entire life in Winnipeg. He had fond memories of his childhood in River Heights, especially playing hockey and football. He was a talented middle linebacker with the Tec Voc Hornets and the St. James Rods. When he hung up his cleats, he still followed his team - the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Gord worked for many years in the automotive business, especially with the Birchwood Automotive Group. In 1991, he opened his own business, Gor-Ann Consulting and Development, and used his vast network of contacts to help people re-enter the workforce until failing health lead to his retirement in 2006. Volunteering was an important part of Gord's life. He served on the board of the John Howard Society. He was a life member of the Masonic Order and volunteered with the Masons Care project, driving patients to Manitoba Cancer Care. He was also a life member of the Shriners North America. His love of children and sense of humour were evident in his activities as Lumpy the Clown in the Khartum Komedians unit. His family and friends have wonderful memories of him driving the clown fire truck in parades. He loved anything with wheels and spent many happy hours with the members of Win-N-Track watching trains and building the model train layout. Gord was a lifetime member of the Salvation Army. He learned to play the cornet at the age of eight at the old Winnipeg Citadel on Rupert Avenue. That lead to over 50 years of sharing the message in music with the Salvation Army band at the Citadel and then at Heritage Park Temple. The fellowship of the band was an important part of his life. It was a special joy to play with his grandfather, William Lee, and then go out with the boys for a coffee after Tuesday night practice. The support of the band and the congregation of Heritage Park Temple was very important to him, particularly during the last two years. A service to celebrate the life of Gordon Allan Williams will be held at the Salvation Army Heritage Park Temple, 810 School Road, Winnipeg on Saturday, December 12 at 11:00 a.m. For many years, Gord volunteered for the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle. In that spirit, the family gratefully requests that in lieu of flowers, friends remember those who are in need by contributing to the Salvation Army Food Bank or to the Christmas Appeal.

  • To Jonathan and Williams Family We were saddened to hear of Gordon's passing. We had the privilege of being Gordon's pastor during our tenure in Winnipeg. He had sharp wit and was very supportive of our ministry. We enjoyed many occasions to share and appreciated the spirit of selfless giving Gordon demonstrated. He loved to make people happy and was really a child at heart. We will miss his kindness and fun loving personality. He was dedicated and committed to the ministry of His church and helped when possible. It is our prayer that God will bring His peace and comfort to all the family. Well done Gordon! Rest in the loving arms of Jesus. You have fought the good fight! - Posted by: Majors Wilson & Winnie Perrin (Friend) on: Dec 11, 2015

  • Gord was a true gentleman and a fine friend! When I arrived in Winnipeg & joined HPT he welcomed me and helped me integrate into the band. He always had a smile and encouraging words for me- and he staunchly supported me through my application for Officership. I'm looking forward to seeing him again, one day, in Gloryland. I pray God's peace & comfort on his loved-ones at this time of farewell. God Bless - Posted by: Darren Woods (Friend & Felliw Bandsman) on: Dec 11, 2015

  • My deepest sympathy goes out to you Jonathan on the loss of your dad. He was a wonderful neighbor. Your dad was the one who got me started as a volunteer driver for cancercare and I have been doing this for six and one half years now. I do volunteer work over at Oakview nursing home and i went to see him a few times and took up any mail to him that was left near our elevator. - Posted by: Joan Porteous (former neighbor across the hall in the csj) on: Dec 11, 2015
