ARTHUR JAMES MARLOW It is with sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Arthur James Marlow on Saturday, December 12, 2015 in Winnipeg, Manitoba at 92 years of age. Arthur leaves to mourn, his wife of 65 years, Mary Mildred nee Fardy; sons, Lester (Lyla), Wayne (Heather), Gregory (Valerie); granddaughters, Kristen (Michael) Dow, Michelle, Elizabeth, Measha, and Rilena; grandsons, Scott, Jeffrey (Joanne) and Meako (Jillian); great- grandchildren, Dylan and Cody Dow and Olivia Evans-Marlow; also sister, Dianne and brothers, Grant and Bernard; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Lynn; brother Keith; great-grandaughter Brittany Dow; and his parents. From 1942 to 1946 Arthur served his country in the Canadian Army during the Second World War, landing on Juno Beach on D day and helping the allied forces liberate France earning numerous medals and decorations for his service. He also served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1948 to 1974. After retiring from the air force, Arthur worked as a courier for the law firm Tupper and Adams until retiring full time in 1988. Arthur met his wife Mary while stationed in Summerside, PEI in 1948. Mary would travel by bus with a group of girlfriends from Charlottetown on weekends to attend dances hoping to meet eligible young bachelors. When Arthur spied Mary across the room he was smitten, and after a couple of glasses of liquid courage he asked her to dance and the romance blossomed. They were married on Arthur's birthday in 1950, his way of making sure he would never forget their anniversary. Arthur was a kind and generous husband, father, and grandpa whose greatest joy and passion in life was his daughter Lynn. Lynn was born with spina bifida and was confined to beds or wheelchairs her entire life. Arthur ensured she was included in all family activities and outings by building Lynn her first wheel chair and modifying family vehicles so she could ride comfortably and always have a view of the scenery. As a child of the depression he learned to make do and be creative with what was at hand. This showed in his many hand built projects from furnishings and household improvements to camping trailers. Arthur was athletic and played hockey, baseball, curling, bowling, and darts. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, and taking very, very long walks. He was a talented musician who played the piano, harmonica, accordion, and organ. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Avenue with Rev. Fr. Eric Giddins, presiding. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Deer Lodge Centre Foundation, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3.
