HELMUT GROTH 1929 - 2015 We're sad to say that our dad passed away on Friday, December 18, after a brief illness. His wife Linda had passed away last year and he was predeceased by all his brothers and sisters back in Germany. He has three sons, Charlie (Anita, Crystal, Addison and Colby), Eric (Monica, Thomas and Allyssa) and Randy (Amanda) and two daughters, Carmen (Greg, Jeremy, Jamie and Dustin) and Jutta (Dave and Craig) that will miss him and remember him dearly along with several grandchildren and even more great-grandchildren. Born in Zeithain, just outside Dresden, Germany, and losing his parents at a young age, he moved around a lot and had many adventures during the war years. He apprenticed as an electrician but when he came to Canada in 1953 and started his life with Linda, he thought he would be a farmer. However, life took a different turn and, after a few jobs including a short time in Churchill, he decided being self employed was for him and he started Groth Concrete Works back in 1957 which he enjoyed working at until he was 84. It was good to see him enjoying his place at Lac Du Bonnet, fishing for goldeye and he made the best smoked fish ever. We thank the doctors, nurses and third floor staff at Concordia Hospital for their compassionate care for Dad in his final days when we could not be with him. We would like to invite you to share your memories of our Dad with us during an open house, Monday, December 28, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day St., Winnipeg. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to the Alzheimer Society.
