WAYNE LESLIE HODGINS (ARCHIE) Wayne passed away December 17, 2015. Born April 7, 1951 and raised in St. James, he was predeceased by his parents Leslie and Barbara and his sister Wendy (Miller). He leaves behind his wife Wendy, son Brad (Karine), brother-in-law George, sisters-in-law Linda (George) and Sherry (Gunther), and many nieces and nephews, also close family members Vera, Norma (Randy), Holly (Lynn), Kelly (Cynthia) Doerksen. Wayne grew up in St. James, attending St. James Collegiate. Wayne, known as Archie with his red hair and freckles, joined the Winnipeg Police Service July 5, 1976, and retired September 6, 2003. Wayne drove a school bus for King Transportation for two years, then went to work for the Birchwood Auto Group at the collision centre, where he worked right up until he became ill. He loved working with his "kids" there, as he would fondly call them. Wayne was a fun loving person with a dry sense of humour, and enjoyed golfing and fishing. We would like to thank the staff at CancerCare for their compassion, the volunteer drivers, as well as the doctors and nurses on the 6th floor of 800 Sherbrook. Wayne will be sadly missed by many friends old and new. There will be no formal service for Wayne as per his request. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter: 3062 Portage Ave, Winnipeg. (204) 832-7387

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • I knew Wayne from our childhood. I was a best friend of his sister, Wendy. And my brother, Vic, was a best friend of Wayne. I heard of his sudden illness when I learned of his sister's very recent passing. I am saddened by the loss of both of them. I read all of the tributes to Wayne so far and realize what a special person he was. My condolences to the family. Nancy - Posted by: Nancy taylor (Childhood friend) on: Dec 31, 2015

  • My sincerest condolences to Wayne's family. I was saddened to hear of his Passing. I was one of his "kids" at Birchwood. He was so generous with his large lunches and gave us gals his cheesey stash! I left Birchwood in August, but remember Wayne very much, he made us laugh with his dry humour and sarcasm. A super guy, who will be very missed. Rest peaceful Wayne. - Posted by: Melanie St. Laurent (Co-worker Birchwood) on: Dec 30, 2015

  • I worked with Archie when MPI started the Hit & Run Program with WPS in/around 2000. He was a character and a super nice individual. Archie - you will be missed! My condolences to his family. - Posted by: Kevin Duckett (Friend) on: Dec 28, 2015

  • So Sorry for you Wendy and your family. I was sad to hear he was sick and now this. I will never forget him. We were close friends way back both through policework and also off the job. I'm now just sorry that I hadn't seen him much in the later years. Please know that both Donna and I are thinking of you and your family. • So sorry to hear about Archie. I remember him at the PSB in his breeks, always stopping to say hi to a young guy like me! A good man taken way too soon. - Posted by: David Clayton (co-worker) on: Dec 27, 2015

  • "Archie" was one of everyone's favourite guys to work with, always upbeat and good for a laugh. Always had time and patience for us "young guys" back in the day. We could use a lot more people like him and we all will miss him. RIP Archie. Sincere sympathies and condolences to your family. - Posted by: Tim Turner (Colleague) on: Dec 27, 2015

  • Well I was certainly devastated when I first heard of Archie's condition. I first met Arch when he first joined the WPS and we worked together many times in District 2 and many more during our years in Traffic. To say Arch was one of a kind would certainly be an understatement. Wayne had such a way about him that could make you laugh in a split second. I always enjoyed working with Wayne every chance I had as you always knew you were in for an enjoyable shift. RIP my friend and hopefully we can ride together again in the sky. My utmost sincerity to Wendy and all Wayne's family and many friends. - Posted by: Rick Elgar (Co-Worker) on: Dec 26, 2015

  • Wendy and family. Please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss; my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. Archie was a great guy. Another one of the good guys gone too soon. Co-worker at WPS. - Posted by: Werner Toews (Co-worker) on: Dec 26, 2015

  • RIP uncle Wayne. I will certainly miss your sense of humour. All my love to you auntie Wendy and Brad. - Posted by: Stephanie Craciun (Niece) on: Dec 26, 2015

  • When I moved from River Heights to St. James in Grade 12, Wayne was one of my first friends there. I don't remember him as "Archie" but he was a fun loving guy and definitely had a dry sense of humour. He was in my wedding party and if I am not mistaken, introduced me to my wife of now almost 43 years. Deb and I will certainly remember him, she referred to Wayne as her "brother" she never had. - Posted by: John Deb Blower (School Mate - Grade 12 St. James Collegiate) on: Dec 26, 2015
