Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLORNE SIMPSON On the evening of December 17th, 2015, Lorne Simpson began his journey to heaven to be reunited with his loving wife Elsie (d.2012). Lorne was born on the family farm July 7th, 1927 in Deerwood, MB to George and Georgina Simpson. As a young boy he did the usual chores of chopping wood and caring for the livestock. He attended schools in the local area and was one of the few students to graduate with a Grade 12 Diploma. Dad was mechanically inclined and liked to repair cars, tractors and various farm machinery. He worked at various jobs including Eaton's, Canada Packers and a GM Garage in Dryden before taking a job at Manitoba Hydro in January of 1953 where he started as a floorman at the Great Falls Generating Station. Shortly thereafter he met Elsie, the love of his life and the two were married November 13, 1954. The first 16 years of married life were spent in the small Hydro town of Seven Sisters Falls, with brief periods spent in Great Falls. In 1969 The Simpson Family moved to Winnipeg, where Lorne continued his work with Manitoba Hydro monitoring water levels and power production. Together they shared 58 years of marriage, raised five children, and enjoyed eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Beginning in 1986, Lorne and Elsie enjoyed a long retirement together. They loved yard work, tending their garden and babysitting the grandkids. Many long summer days were spent at Grand Beach with a picnic to follow. Dad was always available and in his quiet gentle way he would help you in any way he could. After the passing of wife Elsie (d.2012) Lorne sold the family home and settled into Seine River Retirement Residence in July 2014. He was kept busy by his family with many outings, trips to the cottage and coffee dates. Dad was greatly loved by all who knew him. He was kind, considerate and a true gentleman. The passing of Lorne and Elsie marks the end of an era for The Simpson Family. Their love, dedication and influence will be felt by generations yet to come. Left behind in gratitude and sadness are children Garry Simpson (Lori), Monty Simpson (Pat), Beverly Gregorchuk (Dale), Barbara Simpson (Michael Seaman) and Carolyn Dale (Ed). Grandchildren Brian (Jamie), Jessica, Chelsea, Jaime, Eric, Ashton, David (Flori), Ben (Christelle), Joshua, Ed Dale Jr. (Rebekah), Kaisley (Joshua) and seven great-grandchild Lily, Avery, Teddy, Rosalie, Violet, Franklin and Aiden. Lorne is survived by sister-in-law Mary Simpson and brother-in-law Don McEwan. He was predeceased by siblings Boyd, Winston and Gilda. The Simpson Family would like to express their gratitude to Seine River Retirement Residence for their extraordinary care and concern for Lorne. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Springs Church, 725 Lagimodiere Blvd. Donations can be made to Victoria General Hospital or a charity of your choice.
