FRANK ZIPURSKY Frank passed away peacefully on December 25, 2015, at the Victoria General Hospital, at the age of 79 with his family by his side. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Edith, daughter Natalie (Mark), sons Sheldon (Mara) and Ian (Jennifer), grandchildren Michael, Sydney, Anna, Rosie, Riley and Zachary, sister Sylvia, and sisters-in-law Geitie and Mae. He was predeceased by his parents Hymie and Sara, and his brother Sidney. Frank was born in Winnipeg on November 17, 1936 and grew up in the North End. He graduated from St. John's High School, attended United College and obtained his CA designation in 1963. He was the managing partner of the Winnipeg office of the accounting firm Laventhol and Horwath, and practiced on his own in his final years prior to suffering a stroke in 2005. Everyone liked Frank. He was a good person with strong values. He was funny, generous, kind, loyal, supportive, and principled. He was a people person and made friends very quickly. People from all over and all stages of his life would immediately gravitate to him. He was witty and his energy and sense of humour were contagious. Frank worked hard for everything he earned and provided a good life for his family. He was generous with his time and volunteered with many community and professional organizations. He and Edith travelled extensively and enjoyed their trailer in Gimli. He loved sports, reading, and was unmatched at the crossword puzzle. But his greatest joy in life was his family, especially his six grandchildren, who would put a big smile on his face. He was at every important event in his children's and grandchildren's lives. Frank took immense pride in his family, his friends, his work, and approached life with such determination and resilience. These qualities were fierce, especially in the latter stages of his life after suffering a life altering stroke. He never lost his sense of humour and persevered so that he was able to remain at home and live independently. When the doctors told him he would never walk more than a few steps, he proved them wrong and could be seen several times a week walking the track at the Rady Centre, inspiring those around him. The family would like to thank his home care workers, and staff at the Rady Centre, Simkin Centre, and Charleswood Day Club, all of whom were instrumental for Frank in maintaining an active, balanced life over the past 10 years. A special thanks to the Victoria Hospital Palliative Care team who took such loving care of Frank in his final days and allowed him to pass peacefully and with dignity. Funeral services took place at Etz Chayim Synagogue on December 28, 2015 with interment at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael Newman, Neil Muryn, Grant Zipursky, Avery Spigelman, Ted Lyons, and Ken Goldstein. Honorary pallbearers were Rube Helman, Mallory Springman, and Fred Pratt. Donations in Frank's memory can be made to the Frank and Edith Zipursky Fund, c/o the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, or a charity of your choice.
