MARIA STABENE Maria reached the end of her journey on December 26, 2015. This day, "Boxing" Day, was symbolic because she was such a fighter. We are so proud of how you fought with perseverance while maintaining dignity and grace. Maria is survived by her three daughters, Raffaella (Joe), Angie (Fabrizio), and Jennie (Angelo). She leaves to cherish her memory her precious grandchildren, Ariana (Grady), Mario, Chiara, Claudio, Amore, and Monet, her sisters, Rose (Rick) and family, and Pina (Frank) and family, as well as her brother-in-law Angelo. Maria was predeceased by her parents Genoveffa and Fortunato, her mother-in-law Raffaella, her beloved husband Valentino, along with many other cherished family members. Maria was an energetic soul who possessed the ability to light up a room and warm your heart. Her magnetic personality attracted all who entered her life. A meeting and greeting would not be complete without a full embrace and a genuine, warm smile whether you were her closest friend or a most recent acquaintance. You taught us how to laugh, walk with dignity, and to enjoy the small wonders of the world. But most of all, you taught us to love one another. A piece of us died when you left the earth; you are and were the center of our world. We promise to keep your memory alive each and every day. As per Maria's wishes, the Pallbearers will include, Mario Fiorentino, Claudio Franz, Angelo Stabene, Rick Male, Frank Conci, James Male, Thomas Flynn and Grady Woodward. She also wished the honorary Pallbearers to be, Monet Paletta, Amore Paletta, Ariana Fiorentino, Chiara Franz, Mikayla Conci, Lorisa Conci, Vicki Flynn, and Katrina Male. Our deepest gratitude goes out to all the doctors, nurses, and support staff who guided Maria during her time of need. Most recently, the staff at Riverview Health Centre (3E) showed our mom genuine compassion and provided impeccable care. A special thanks to Dr. Ted, and Dr. Crow who provided us with comfort during the last leg of her journey. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, December 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary (510 River Avenue) with Father Sam Argenziano presiding. Viewing will be held one hour prior at 10:00 a.m. The family has requested a private entombment. Flowers are respectfully declined. For any who choose to do so, a donation can be made to Riverview Health Centre Foundation (palliative care unit 3E) in Maria's name. Maria once said that she would never stop dancing. Keep on dancing, Mom! We love you more!

My true friend Maria, how I will miss you. A part of me will hang on to you forever. My life will not be the same without you. I am where I am because of you. I am who I am because of what you taught me. You believed in me when others did not. You stood beside me when others did not. You gave me strength, when I wanted to give up. I love you now, and forever. - Posted by: Janet Park (friend) on: Mar 08, 2016

Such a lovely and wonderful woman Maria was! We are so saddened to hear of her untimely passing. Maria had such a fantastic bonding with my daughter, Holly, in the Infant room, at the Lindenwoods CCC. We recently went through Holly's treasures from her infancy, and read so many beautiful, encouraging words from Maria, who was my daughter's "Mom" while I was at work. Hugs to you all, we will always keep Maria in our hearts, blessings the the Stabene family. - Posted by: Karen, Holly and Mitchell Hurst (Our Special and Wonderful Caregiver at Lindenwoods Child Care Centre, and Neighbour on Wallingford C) on: Jan 11, 2016

I am very sad to hear that Maria has passed on. She is one of those people that somehow you think should and will be with us forever. She was a very special lady and provided loving care to both of our sons Cameron and Jay. She was the driving force behind the Infant Care program and was a person full of love and principle. I want to extend my sympathy to her entire family and her friends. The world was better for Maria having spent time amongst us. - Posted by: Philip Townsend (Former Member of the Board of Directors for Lindenwood Child Care Centre and Treasurer) on: Jan 03, 2016

The news of Maria's passing saddens me deeply. She impacted so many young loves when she worked at Lindenwoods Child Care Centre. She had a zest for life that she passed on to the children in her care and her colleagues. Maria always stood up for what she believed in. She was a person to be admired. Rest in peace Maria. Dear Raffae, Angie, Jennie - your mother Maria will be sadly missed by our family. Over the past five years we shared many wonderful visits with your mom. We will cherish her sense of humour, warm smile, encouraging words of advice and understanding. There will be a void as we look up to her balcony and not see her. We are thankful to have met Maria and her memories will be with us whenever we look at the thoughtful gifts from her in our home. Your mom was very proud of you, her three girls, and always spoke so fondly of your children and your spouses. Remember the good times, the laughter, the joy she brought to all she met. May God bless all of you. - Posted by: Deanne and Charles paragg (Friends and Neighbours) on: Dec 29, 2015

Maria, only a few chance visits and conversations gave me a lifetime of hope, strength, courage, and wisdom when I needed those most. Two years ago on NYE you called me "Angel", but I now hope you will be mine as I begin my new teaching job (you were right; dreams come true "when your principal takes a chance on you"!:-)). What kind of English teacher would I be without offering a poem in remembrance of you? I will always remember you by Rumi's words that capture your humanity so brilliantly: "To love is human. To feel pain is human. Yet to still love despite the pain is pure angel." Maria, may you rest in peace and dance through the Heavens with your beautiful wings. - Posted by: E. We are so sorry to hear about dear Maria s passing. She was and will always be remembered for her huge spirit. She always filled the room with her vivacious soul and had a very special elegance she carried with her. I will always cherish seeing her last year after 20 yrs, and the comfort she gave me in church by holding my hand. Maria was an inspiration to us all and a true example of using courage to help others in our lives, despite what we are going through. Her spirit will undoubtedly live on in all of us that were blessed to know her. I feel very privileged to have known Maria even though it was for such a short period of time. She has touched my life with her kind words and lovely smile. The memory I will hold in my heart is of the last time I saw her. It was a simple evening, we just chatted about life and drank a little wine. But when she went to leave (as she wasn't feeling well) she gave me the warmest of hugs....turned to leave and then turned back to give me just one more. She said she felt that I could use just one more--and I did. As always, Maria was putting the needs of others ahead of her own. My sincere condolences to my dear friend Jennie and her family for the loss of this wonderful soul. - Posted by: Pam Yorke (Friend) on: Dec 29, 2015
