JOSEPHINE CARTER We announce the peaceful passing into glory of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Josie (Chefi) on December 26, 2015 at the Grace Hospital, aged 90. She was predeceased by her husband Jimmy, father Thomas, mother Josefa, brothers Thomas, Antonio, Enrique, and Sergio, and her grandson Carl. Josie was born to Thomas and Josefa Estella (nee Mena) on May 30, 1925 in La Linea, Spain, and registered in the British Colony of Gibraltar. At the outbreak of the Second World War, along with her brothers and parents, she was evacuated to London, England, where she met the love of her life, Jimmy Carter who was also from Gibraltar. Towards the end of the war they were relocated to Northern Ireland where they were married on December 20, 1944. In October of 1945 her son Clive was born. After the war they moved back to Gibraltar and in 1948 their daughter Wilma was born. In subsequent years many moves were made between Gibraltar and England. In 1969 they emigrated from Gibraltar to Winnipeg in order to be closer to their son Clive and his family. She was employed at Western Engine till her retirement. Josie is survived by her son Clive (Maria) of Winnipeg, daughter Wilma (Bryn) of Plymouth, England, grandchildren James (Kim), Jason (Gina), Belinda (Chris), and John (Shannon) in Winnipeg, Jonathon (Shelly), Ian (Paula), and Tracey in England, 11 great-grandchildren in Winnipeg, and 11 in Plymouth, England, two great-great-grandchildren in Plymouth, England, and numerous other relatives in England, Gibraltar and Canada. She was a founding member of A.C.C. Church together with her husband Jimmy. She will be missed but we know that we will be with her again one day. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A private family burial to follow. A special thanks to the nurses and staff of Oakview Extendicare, as well as doctors and nurses of the Emergency Department and 3rd Floor South of the Grace General Hospital.
