Aster Kanako Nagamori was born on July 28, 1926 in Haney, British Columbia. The eldest of six children with parents, Kankichi and Fuku Onagi. Due to the war the family was evacuated in 1942 to the Sugar Beet farms in St. Pierre, Manitoba, where she lived until her marriage to Masatoshi Nagamori on May 5, 1945. Together they raised six children and had seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Manitoba Buddhist Temple, as well as the Chidori Kai Choir which performed on T.V., as well as many other cultural events. Aster was predeceased by her parents, Kankichi and Fuku Onagi, Masajiro and Tsuya Nagamori; brother Harry; husband Mas; in-laws, Sid and Ray Nagamori, Bert and Mary Watkins, Richard Oye, Bruce Hashimoto, Ted Govatsos, Bunny Nagamori and Patricia Onagi. She is survived by her children, Larry, Susan (Toshio) Nishi, Donna, Darrell (Thess Posadas), Cheryl (Kent) Torgalson and Karen. Also by her grandchildren, Mika Koll (Dave Evitt), Debbie (Rob) Chester, Steven Nishi (Alli), Tracy (Russ) Price, Eric, Sean and Dana Torgalson and her great-grandchildren, Soren Koll, Aislyn, Gavin and Morgan Chester, Sadie and Oliver Price and by her siblings, Peter Onagi, Alan (Emily) Onagi, Ruby Govatsos, Harold (Nancy) Onagi and in-laws, Tad Nagamori, Ruby Oye, Faye Hashimoto, Lily (Toru) Hosaki and Bette Nagamori and many nieces and nephews. Our Mother was the heart and soul of the family and we will miss her dearly. I know she was extremely grateful to family and friends who did so much for her over the years. Thank you to the EMT's and fire fighters, nursing staff and doctors at the Grace Hospital for their care of Mom at the end. The family would especially like to thank, Larry and Karen for taking care of Mom since our Father passed away. She couldn't have led such an independent life right up to the end without your help. We thank everyone for their kind words, flowers and offers of help during this difficult time. Cremation has already taken place and a private family service has been held.
