Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBRENDA KATHLEEN MASSEY (BISSON) (nee BARRETT) Brenda Massey of Winnipeg, MB passed away, surrounded by her family, on December 30, 2015 at Health Sciences Centre after a hard fought battle with Diabetes and Kidney Disease, she was 71. She was predeceased by her mother Ethel and her father Albert, as well as numerous aunts and uncles. She leaves to mourn her children Bradford, Roger (Lisa), Bernice, and Denise (Denis), along with her grandchildren Brie-Anne, Dylan (Keely), Eric, Alexander, Erin, John, Randi, and Luc, and her one and only great-grandchild Keira, as well as her brothers Dennis, Bruce (Edith) and Brian (Norma). Also, her dear friend and longtime companion Ollie, who remained so dedicated and by her side right to the end. Brenda was born on February 17, 1944 in Portage La Prairie, MB. She attended elementary school and high school in Portage before moving to Winnipeg to study nursing. She graduated from the St. Boniface School for Practical Nurses in June of 1962. She was a nurse right up until her retirement 10 years ago. There will be a funeral mass held for Brenda at St. Vital Parish, 1629 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Barry officiating. A reception will follow in the Church gathering space. Brenda spent her last eight years living at Golden Door Geriatric Centre, building strong friendships not only with the other residents, but with the staff as well. Mom loved living at Golden Door and we would like to extend a very special thank you to Mira and Shaun, and all of their amazing nurses and health care aides, for being so supportive of our mother during her time there. We would also like to thank her best friend Dorothy for always being there for her. Mom loved her bingo dates with Dorothy. A special thank you to her caring nurses on GA3 at Health Sciences Centre for making her last days so comfortable.

Such a sweet and gentle soul, I understand why Uncle Ollie was so close to you, so beautiful inside and out!!! Sorry to hear of Brenda's passing! I used to work at Golden Door and chatting with her one day found we had had alot in common and we used to keep each other informed on the goings on in my home town. Brenda often talked of her children and you could tell she was a very loving mom. Ollie you also were there for Brenda and she was lucky to have you as a caring companion and I know she will be missed by all who knew her . I knew Brenda for several years through visiting at Golden Door. She greeted everyone with a big smile and a "How are you today"? She will be missed by staff and the residents, especially Dorothy.
