MONICA RETA CHARLES Peacefully, after a long illness, Monica Reta Charles passed away at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre on December 26, 2015, at the age of 86 years. Reta was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Alice; siblings, Vauda, Wesley, Reginald and Evelyn. She is survived by her brother Frederick Jr. and many nieces and nephews. Reta was born and raised on her parents' farm in Ochre River, Manitoba. She moved to Winnipeg, where she attended secretarial school, leading to a long career with the Canadian Red Cross Society. She was a fun-loving person who led an active life and pursued many interests. Her greatest love was music. She studied piano and voice with the Royal Conservatory of Music, achieving Grade 8 in piano and Grade 10 in voice. Although she did not marry and have children of her own, she enjoyed the company of children. She was much loved by her many nieces and nephews, taking them on outings and sharing her many interests with them. In her later years, she spent a great deal of time with her sister, Evelyn. The family would like to thank the staff of the Golden Door Geriatric Centre and Comforts of Home Care for their care and kindness in Reta's last years. Flowers will be graciously accepted. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016, with a viewing one hour prior at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB.
