ETHEL ROSE MARKUSSON July 18, 1928 - December 27, 2015 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ethel, on Sunday, December 27, 2015, at the age of 87. Ethel passed away at the Gimli Community Health Centre (GCHC) with her family by her side. Ethel, daughter of Halldor and Clara Einarson, beloved wife of Mundi, mother to Shauna (Bob) Trueman, Lorne (Gail) Markusson and Jo-Ann (Steven) Brignoly. Amma to Brennan, Scott (Breanne) and Stephanie (Kyle) Trueman; Kristjan (Crystal), Johann (Danielle), Justin and Lindsey (Sean) Markusson; Jenna and Jessica Brignoly, and lang Amma to Trentin, Kaiden, Emilia, Jacqueline, Seth and Nolan. Ethel is survived by her brother Lawrence Einarson, her sister Inga Solmundson, sisters-in-law Kathy, Thorunn and Ollie Einarson and Sigurros Kristjanson, and brothers-in-law Einar Einarson and Albert Markusson. Ethel was predeceased by her husband Mundi (2011), son Lorne (1999), her parents Halldor (1970) and Clara (1945); her parents-in-law Johannes (2009) and Emilia (2001); her sister Gertie Einarson; her brothers Steve, Halli, Jonas, Gordon and a brother in infancy; her brother-in-law Hope Solmundson and sister-in-law Margaret Markusson; her niece Jolene Einarson, and nephew Jerry Marks. Ethel grew up on the family farm Vatnsnes and attended N. Arnes School - often walking or biking in the fall and spring and going by dog team or horse and sleigh in the winter. Ethel and Mundi were married in the Arnes Lutheran Church on September 30, 1950. They moved to Gimli and in 1955 they purchased a corner grocery store. In 1965, they expanded the business, building a new store, which they operated as Markusson Foods until 1993. Ethel was a wonderful wife, mother, Amma, lang Amma, sister, cousin and friend. Mom's door was always open with coffee and dainties on the table and everybody was always welcome. Mom was not one to sit idle - she was a wonderful cook and baker; she enjoyed knitting and sewing - the grandchildren saved all their mending to bring to Amma to fix. In their retirement, Mom enjoyed doing puzzles with Dad and feeding the birds in their backyard. Later Mom enjoyed participating in the various activities at the Waterfront Centre. One of Mom's greatest pleasures was sharing the company of her family and friends. Ethel will be forever missed by her loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank her home care ladies, the EMS staff, the staff at GCHC, Dr. Beik and Dr. Rhoma, and her cousin Beverley Einarson for all the help she gave Mom. At Ethel's request, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A private graveside service for Mundi and Ethel will be held at a later date. Goda Nott Elskan
