LAURA MARTHA GARDEWINE (nee LESLIE) On December 23, 2015, at the age of 82, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend passed away at her home. She will live on through her five children Lisa (Lawrence Prout), Sandra (David Sohor), Cecil Jr., Heather (Grant Egnell) and Daniel; nine grandchildren Jason, Cassandra, Lara, Carson, Alexis, Courtney, Zachary, Chloe, Dani-Rae, and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased in 1996 by her husband of 40 years, Cecil, father Bert, mother Vera, brothers Robert, Carl, and Norman; sisters Bertha, and Darlyne; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She will be sadly missed by her remaining family Ialeen (Art Pargeter), June (Harold Imhoff), Vera Falk, John Punak, Ed (Vada Gardewine), and Phyllis (Greg Ball); numerous nieces and nephews. Laura was born in Novra, MB and grew up in Birch River. As a young adult she and her sister Ialeen ventured to Flin Flon - a booming mining town at the time - where she met and married Cecil. The young family moved to Winnipeg in 1957 with the expansion of the family trucking company Gardewine and Sons. They moved into the new subdivision of Garden City in 1963 and Laura continued to live in the area until her death. From the homes she lovingly cared for, Laura nurtured deep roots where she was partnered at Cecil's side through many an adventure; raised their five children; welcomed family from in and out of town, cultivated friendships; and hosted countless parties for every occasion or for no reason at all. Relationships meant everything to Laura and none would be more special than those she held with her sisters. Interment has taken place. A celebration of Laura's life will be held at Hy's Steakhouse, Saturday, January 30 at 11:00 a.m. Donations to Winnipeg Harvest may be made in her memory.
