EDWARD ALLAN HENDERSON (VE4YU) After four years of living life to the fullest in spite of his cancer, Ed Henderson passed away on January 11, 2016. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Irene (Hall); his children, Thomas, Sue (Allan), Rick (Thais); and grandchildren, Lauryn and Cyrian. Ed graduated from Ryerson Institute of Technology in 1958 and worked on the Avro Arrow until its cancellation. From then until his retirement in 1997 he worked on the installation, service and maintenance of large scale computers. In retirement he enjoyed summer road trips in Canada and the US, winter months in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and in recent years visiting the family in Gilbert, AZ. He received his amateur radio license at 17 and that became a lifelong hobby. His love of music and his electronic skills led to a 20 year involvement in nostalgia radio as a producer, technician and announcer on CKVN, CJML and CJNU. The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses at Seven Oaks hospital and St. Boniface palliative care unit. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. Donations to Nostalgia Broadcasting Cooperative, Box 2282, Station Main, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4A6 or Masonic Foundation of Manitoba Inc., Cancer Care Transportation Services, 420 Corydon Ave, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 0N8 would be appreciated. Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • I was just thinking back at the great times I had with the Henderson family growing up. Ed was such an enthusiastic and funny dad, I really felt like part of the family. They took me on a few great road trips to flea markets and a lilac festival. I'm so sorry to hear of Ed's passing. He was a great person to know. My thoughts are with Irene, Rick, Sue and Tom. Sincerely, Lill - Posted by: Lill (Family Friend) on: Oct 29, 2016

  • Dear Irene and Family, Ed and I closely worked resuscitating Winnipeg Amateur Radio Club in the 1970s won the Canadian Radio Relay League's ultimate national convention for Winnipeg. I appreciated Irene's presence at WARC flea markets and other events long after Ed had stepped down from a leadership role. I still recall having WARC meetings at the house and getting a chance to view Irene's doll collection. Both Ed and Irene are treasured.
