GEORGE ULRICH September 29, 1934 - January 15, 2016 At the age of 81, God called His faithful servant Gerhard Fritz Ulrich home after battling Parkinson's for many years. He is survived by his loving wife Irmgard (nee Nachtigall); his children, Marvin (Moira) and grandchildren Sarah and Sheila; Harvey (Cindy) and grandchildren, Jordan (Angela), Jason (fiancee Brooklyn), Kyla; Frank (Monica) and grandchildren, Joel and Shane; James (Alisa) and grandchildren Abigail, Eli, Gavin; brothers, Hans (Annemarie), Fritz (Dagmar), and Egon (Carol). He was predeceased by oldest brother Manfred, and sisters-in-law Ingrid and Lina. George was born on the family farm in Zeinicke, Germany, the middle son of five boys born to Fritz and Ella Ulrich. In 1953 George immigrated to Canada from Germany with his family. He dedicated his life to Christ as a young adult and was baptized at the Alexander Third Baptist Church. Dad was an active member of Rowandale Baptist Church for many years volunteering his time serving in a number of roles and giving generously to support the church and para-church ministries. Dad's decision to follow God shaped his entire life and business dealings. Mom and Dad met at Alexander Third Baptist Church and were married there on August 2, 1958. They started married life renting the upstairs of mom's oldest brother Erwin's house and shortly after built their first home on Hawthorne Ave. in North Kildonan. Dad became an electrician, and after working for a few years went on to start his own electrical company (Red River Electric) in the early sixties. Dad was successful in business, wiring many of the apartment buildings and commercial properties in Winnipeg. Dad loved the outdoors. Dad's get away was his acreage, "the farm", which is located near the east gate of Bird's Hill Park. Dad and mom enjoyed many weekends at "the farm" with their children, grandchildren and extended family members and eventually moved out to the "the farm". No expense was spared as dad loved to see people enjoying themselves, playing sports on the large grass field and volleyball court, and then cooling off in the swimming pool. During winter months, old and young played amazing games of shinny on the massive hockey rink with full boards and flood lights. Dad was incredibly generous with his time and money. In whatever way Dad could help or give, he would do so. Memorial service to take place, Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Avenue, dad's Pastor Mark Woods officiating. Friends Funeral Service, 204-339-5555.
