Born: Mar 08, 1927
Date of Passing: Jan 17, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPAT MARTIN March 8, 1927 - January 17, 2016 After a blissfully long life, our mom passed away very peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2016. She was all set to indulge in her favourite winter pastime, watching curling on TV. A beloved mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, she was Pat, Mom, Auntie, but known as Boppy to most. Bop was predeceased by her parents, Mary (nee Okapiec) and James Black; her beloved husband, Harold; sisters-in-law, Phyllis and Betty and her treasured brother-in-law David and son-in-law Stuart. She is survived by her daughters, Lynn (Bruce) Anderson, Judy Pateman, Laurie (Dennis) Danwich; her niece Eva Brown (Robert); her grandchildren, Heath (Sue) Anderson, Reiss Anderson, Onale (Randy) Thomas, Ryan Pateman, Drew (Julie) Pateman, Preston (Cara) Danwich, Adam Danwich and Lauren Danwich; her great-grandchildren, Shea, Trace, Seth and Zane, Colton and Liam, Ramona, Poppy and Ali. In addition, Eva's family, David's family and the Okapiec family. Boppy was born in Winnipeg, where she attended Mulvey and Gordon Bell School. She loved all sorts of sports with acrobatics at the top of the list. She ventured out on her own to work and stay at the Moonlight Inn in Victoria Beach. It was there that she met the love of her life, our Dad. Bop told us all many times over the years that it was love at first sight - a love that lasted over 70 years, for which they were married for 63 years. As a young bride, accustomed to life in the big city, Boppy was quickly initiated into the hardships of country living in Traverse Bay. No hydro, no running water and no roads but with lots of hard work and love, she overcame it all. She worked side by side with Dad on the mink ranch and in the large vegetable garden. In later years, she especially enjoyed the sanctuary of her flower garden. Mom will best be remembered for her dedication to the community she loved. She volunteered her time and talent to church, the sports club, the women's auxiliary and, of course, the Merry Makers. She was one of the founding members in the 1950s and was still in a supporting role at the time of her passing. She instilled in all of her children and grandchildren, the pride and the commitment to carry out all the necessities to keep the community thriving. She wrote the regulations on the size of meatballs and cabbage rolls. Her matrimonial cake was an anticipated goody at all bake sales and events. As the years went by, Bop's various ailments slowed her down physically but never mentally. She was always prepared to lend a helping hand by way of good advice and just through caring. We all have our wonderful memories. We are all truly grateful for the care, understanding and guidance Boppy has given us all through the years. A memorial service to celebrate Bop's life will take place on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Michael's Church, on Pine Road, Victoria Beach, MB. A reception at the Victoria Beach Sports Centre immediately following the service. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Pat, may do so to the Merry Makers Club or the Victoria Beach Sports Centre (both at P.O. Box 260, Victoria Beach, MB R0E 2C0) or to the charity of choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com

Feb 27, 2016 Dear Family and Friends, Aunty Anne Lester just called me tonight, in Ontario to tell me your Mom had passed. I was shocked. Somehow, my Inner Child felt that for all eternity, when I came home to Victoria Beach...my dear friend, Pat Martin would be at every family and Community Event. Her soul shown like The Sun, all her life. IN fact, even though her earthly presence is gone, I truly believe...her Light is still with us and will be forever. Sending Loves and hugs, from The Lee Family (Michal, Markham and Patrick) - Posted by: Michal S Lee (One of Pat's greatest Fans) on: Feb 27, 2016
