Date of Passing: Jan 16, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM (BILL) GIESBRECHT October 23, 1917 - January 16, 2016 Our loving Dad peacefully passed away on January 16, 2016. We will miss him deeply. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Marie in 2009. Remaining to cherish his memory are his daughters Sharon and Adrianne (Brian). Dad served in the Canadian Armed Forces (1st Battalion Saskatoon Light Infantry) from 1939 to 1945, and while he was overseas met Mum. They married in March 1945 and had 63 years together. Dad had a great sense of humour and was an especially generous and giving person. He loved to fish, walk, and travel. Mum and Dad had many trips to Wales, Hawaii and England, spending months in Liphook and visiting with family. Dad was a letter carrier for 25 years and after retiring at 65 learned to swim. Always another adventure to undertake! He continued to walk, swim, exercise and take yoga into his 90s. He was a long time member of Grey Street United Church and was fortunate to make many lifelong friends while there. In 2009, Dad moved to Concordia Village, from his home in Elmwood, where he had been for over 50 years. He thrived there making more friends and enjoyed many new activities. A Funeral Service will be held on January 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Grey Street United Church (Grey at Sandhurst). Our special thanks go to Corrine, Tammy, Frank and Susan who made his life so much more enjoyable. The family would like to acknowledge all the medical professionals and health care providers that touched our father's life. A special thank you to Dr. Darcy Johnson and staff at Concordia Hospital and Deer Lodge Centre who cared for him and us during his final stay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Concordia Hospital Foundation or Grey Street United Church. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
