BERNICE JOHANNESSON 1919 - 2016 After a long and fruitful life, Bernice died at the age of 96 on January 13, 2016, at River Park Gardens Personal Care Home, St. Vital. Predeceased by her parents Alice and Bert Oxley; her sisters Shirley and Enid; and her beloved husband Alf. She is survived by her children Arleen (Grant) Stiver, Ken (Doreen) Johannesson and Donald Johannesson. She was grandmother to Jason (Patti) and Terri-lee (Shauna) Johannesson, John (Abbey) and Johanna (Drew) Stiver; and great-grandmother to nine. Bernice was a devoted member of St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church and served the church and her community as an active volunteer all her life. Her skills in knitting and needlework, crossword puzzles and bridge were legendary. In her seventies and eighties she regularly swam 40 lengths of the YMCA pool. Until she was nearly ninety Mom tended her own vegetable garden and walked two and a half kilometres to Safeway. She was an example of quiet strength, determination and integrity to us all. The family would like to thank the exceptional staff at River Park Gardens for their tender care. A celebration of Bernice's life will be held in the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
