Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Kalle will be terribly missed by all that were fortunate to know him. I remember as a child visits to the Isokauppila's home. Kalle always asked me thought provoking questions or told me about some interesting Finnish custom. Then years later as a teenager of driving age, Kalle gave me my first car, just like that. Generous he was. Then the years passed. I had started a family of my own. One day Kalle called me up and invited us out to his place in Kenora. I was surprised to hear from him after many years. He never forgot about me. The little boy he nicknamed Jalmari some 35 or so years earlier. Naturally we went to visit Kalle and Riitta and also their children Kay and Ville. Not surprisingly, he made lasting impressions on my wife Neelam and our daughter Priya. Kalle just had a knack for connecting with people that resonated among all that knew him. He will be greatly missed. Our deepest condolences. - Posted by: Jari, Neelam, and Priya Kolu (Friends) on: Feb 13, 2016

  • We met Kalle and his family in 1977 in Winnipeg. Kalle, with his brilliant memory, vast knowledge of people, places, and things, his engaging conversation style, and special kind of humor made an immediate and lasting impression on us, and we became friends for life. Over the years, Kalle brought many talented people to work in the textile industry where he made a major contribution to the City and the industry. He had countless innovative ideas in business and all areas of life. Kalle and Riitta have been central figures in the Finnish-Canadian community, inviting us and countless others to their wonderful lakefront place in Kenora that they built. Their generosity; arranging fishing and boating trips, enjoying the nature, and enjoying special meals and conversations were always special – some of the best moments in our lives. Kalle had a big heart; caring for elderly, helping so many people in so many ways, and never asking for anything in return. Even after years, when we had moved to the US, and even when his health started failing, he would call often and ask, by name, how we and each of our family members are doing. We have lost a very special person and a great friend. You will always be in our hearts and minds. Rest in Peace, Kalle. On Luojamme kädessä elomme tie, Hän matkamme määrää ja kotihin vie. • This man was my father. He was a force to be reckoned with. Kalle the Finlander was able to have a talk with someone over coffee and not have them realize they were just interrogated and told him things they didn't mean to. My dad had a string booming voice , I think I can still hear him shout from Heaven. I miss you terribly, I hope you are at peace. Until I see you again , kiipis - Posted by: Kay (Daughter ) on: Jan 27, 2016

  • I loved you daddy , you supported me and listened to me daily . You gave me so much strength and advice I could not have gotten through life without you. You were my rock, my guidance my hero , I can't imagine this world without you. Who will interview suitors for my kids when they grow up ? No pappa to lower his glasses and say (in a strong Finnish voice) What is your background? Then proceeding to interrogate (ask questions) until you hear what you want. I'll miss you terribly as will your grandchildren Kalle Jr., Matti and Alexis along with Clint - Posted by: Kay (Daughter) on: Jan 26, 2016
