ANNE PENNER
Born: Feb 01, 1918
Date of Passing: Jan 25, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNE (ANNIE) PENNER (nee PANKRATZ) On Monday, January 25, 2016 at the Charleswood Care Centre our beloved Mother, Anne aged 97, closed her eyes and peacefully passed away. Born February 1, 1918 in Rudnerweide, Russia, Anne will be forever remembered as a devoted Mother to her four children, Charlotte of Regina, SK, Delphine of Langley, BC, Wendell (Karen) of Maple Ridge, BC, and Lindsay (Cathy) of Winnipeg, MB. "Granny/Nana" as she was known to her eleven Grandchildren (Brenda, Debra, Lonnie, Lori, Peter, Shelly, Jamie, Christine, Marnie, Shaun, and Jason); will be lovingly remembered as the "one you went to when Mom or Dad said no". Her patience; kindness and unwavering devotion to their wellbeing will remain a cherished memory. Anne's extended family continues to grow to include numerous great-grandchildren and now; their children. Anne was predeceased by her parents Gerhard and Sara; her husband Herbert; her brothers Henry, George and Jacob; her sister Sara; her granddaughters Debra and Shelly and her grandson Peter. Anne's life was not without its struggles. In 1925; Anne, her mother, her sister and two surviving brothers fled the turmoil in Russia to begin a new life in Canada. Sickness and disease were common on board the ship; and the entire family fell ill; George ultimately succumbed to illness and died in Quebec City. The family remained in Quebec City until well enough to continue their journey. Anne's sister Sara was relocated to Rosthern, SK to begin work as a domestic; her brother Jacob was sent to Saskatchewan to work as a farm laborer. Anne and her mother Sara also moved to Saskatchewan but; the family never completely reunited until 1963. Anne met her husband Herbert in the mid 1930's and married in 1936. They began their family in Hague, Saskatchewan; eventually moving to Regina and then finally to Winnipeg in 1963. Anne loved life. Every new opportunity was a chance for an adventure. She enjoyed meeting new people; going dancing and getting together with friends and family to play cards. Anne was extremely proud of her family and considered them to be her greatest accomplishment. Nothing made her more excited than knowing that she would be spending time with family; whether it was "working" the annual Regina garage sale; cheering a grandson on during a football game; or playing hostess to out of town family when they came to visit. A phone call or card from her children simply made her day. The family would like to thank the staff of the Charleswood Care Centre with special thanks to Leah and Abeba. Your care and compassion towards our Mother will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made in Anne's memory to a charity of your choice. A celebration of Anne's life will take place at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. "As long as we can love each other and remember the feeling of love we had, we can die without ever really going away. All the love you created is still there. All the memories are still there. You live on in the hearts of everyone you have touched and nurtured while you were here". Mitch Albom, "Tuesdays with Maury" Anne's family has entrusted her arrangements to the care of Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. Our deepest sympathies to the family. Ann was a wonderful and dear friend of our mothers. Our mum passed in 2013. I remember how much fun they had with their ceramics. I have no doubt Ann and our mum are having a good old chin wag right now. May she rest in peace~ - Posted by: McLean Family (Children to Patrica McLean (long time friend of Ann Penner)) on: Feb 11, 2016
