LEONARD HARRIS MANDZIUK 1938 - 2016 On Wednesday, January 20, 2016, Len Mandziuk of Osoyoos, BC passed away peacefully at the South Okanagan General Hospital, at the age of 77 years. Len was born in Winnipeg, MB, the elder son of William and Mary Mandziuk who predeceased him in 2007 and 2008. He leaves to mourn his passing, Lois, his wife of 51 years; his son Glenn; his daughter-in-law Alleson, and his beloved granddaughter Emma. Also surviving him are his brother Bruce (Terry); nieces Lisa and Heather; sister-in-law Linda Trypka (Brian); niece Kathleen Schuller (Shawn); nephew Geoff Trypka; grandnephew Kaleb, and grandnieces Sicily and Sawyer. Len worked at Sovereign Life Insurance Co., Retail Credit and Statistics Canada in Winnipeg. Then, along with his brother Bruce, bought and operated the Towers Hotel in Dauphin. In 1984, he moved to Osoyoos, BC and with his wife owned and managed the Bella Villa Motel for over 20 years. His passion and knowledge of the aircraft industry was well known and his collection of clocks was almost overwhelming, especially when he wound them all. He also liked to travel, especially back roads. During his retirement he took great pleasure in taking his granddaughter Emma and her friend Kenzie on trips through Western Canada and as far south as San Diego, CA. Lois would like to thank her neighbours Felix and Joan who gave their help whenever needed. Also a special thank you to the Ambulance Service and volunteer firefighters who came to Len's assistance during his illness, and Dr. Tarr and the staff at the South Okanagan General Hospital. A graveside service with family and friends was held on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Scattering Gardens in the Oliver Cemetery. If friends wish they can make a donation to the Parkinson's Society of BC, #600 - 890 West Pender Street, Vancouver, BC V6C 1J9. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I met Len for the first time in June 1997. As a Quebec citizen, I decided to travel to Osoyoos to learn English and he hired me at the very first minute I showed up to his hotel. I did some outdoor works and we appreciated each other. I've been working for Lois and him for 2 or 3 summers in a row. I really enjoyed having a beer with him and talking around the fire. He has always been very kind and I've always missed the two of them. I would like to thank him for the great opportunity I have been given and I am sad today to learn that he passed away 3 years ago. I learned it googling his name because I was wondering how they were. If you read this Lois, thank you for everything and I am sorry for your loss. • Len was a great friend to my parents, Helen and Don Dewar and to me and my husband Art and children. We have many fond memories of summers at the beach at the Bella Villa that Len and Lois allowed us to use while in Osoyoos visiting my parents. Len was the quintessential host and loved to visit and share stories. He will be missed by all who knew him. My sincerest condolences to Lois and her family. - Posted by: Deb Riel (Friend) on: Feb 05, 2016
