JOHN JANZEN 1933 - 2016 John Janzen passed away on February 2, 2016, at the age of 82 years. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Mary (Schmidt), and his children, Lorraine (Greg), Ron (Noreen), and Valerie (Peter). John will also be fondly remembered by his nine grandchildren, Heidi, Kevin (Kate), Teresa (Khel), Katy (Frichard), Luke, Eleanor, Yvonne, Aaron (Amy), Evan and four great-grandchildren. John was predeceased by infant grandchildren Karalee and Mark, brother Ben, sister Tina, brothers-in-law John and George, and sister-in-law Martha. John was born November 11, 1933 to John and Elizabeth (Hoeppner) Janzen in Morden, Manitoba. John had happy memories of his farm and country school childhood, which he loved to recall and tell. In retirement he would often visit the homestead and former schoolyard. John and Mary retired to Morden in 1996 after John finished a career in manufacturing with Winnipeg firms Wilmar Windows, Versatile Manufacturing and Pioneer Electric Co. John enjoyed his times with family on camping and fishing trips, extended family reunions and visits to the farm. He was always ready with the BBQ, a quality cut of nicely "marbled" red meat and a pot of coffee for whoever would join him. In their retirement years John and Mary enjoyed volunteering at the local MCC Thrift Shop. John was baptized in 1953 and, together with Mary, enjoyed supportive and meaningful fellowship with the Home Street Mennonite Church (Winnipeg) and Emmanuel Mennonite Fellowship (Winkler). Viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, February 5 at Wiebe Funeral Chapel, 1050 Thornhill St. in Morden. Memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Emmanuel Mennonite Church, 750 15th St. in Winkler, MB. The family wishes to thank the many friends, family, church members, and caregivers with Salem (Winkler) and Tabor (Morden) Personal Care Homes who gave so thoughtfully and generously of themselves to help John (and Mary) through his extended illness. Flowers are respectfully declined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9.
