MARGARET LILLIAN BYRON
Date of Passing: Jan 30, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET (PEGGY) LILLIAN BYRON Peggy passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 30, at Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Byron; and her sister, Kathleen Bell. The youngest daughter of Stuart and Lillian Smith, Peggy was born in Edmonton in 1920. Mom ("Nana Peggy" to her grandchildren) is survived by her twin daughters, Karen May (Robert) of Charlotte, NC, and Kasey Wilson of Vancouver; as well as four grandchildren, Jeff (Pam), Pam (Derrick), Karen (Mark) and Bill (Dianne); and eight great-grandchildren, Jack, Ruby; Eli and twins Amelia and Julien; and Bobby, Will and Charlotte. She moved to Winnipeg as a young woman and met Bob at the wedding of Marge and Jerry Hemsworth (of Rae and Jerry's Steakhouse). They were married on June 12, 1943, and celebrated 50 years together. Bob was a well-known comedian and she became his "straight man" until his death in 1993. Peggy graduated from business school and worked for decades at Swift Canadian Co. in St. Boniface. She was strong spirited in support of her family and fiercely independent. (Asked to write a sentence during a test at Victoria Hospital in December, she scribbled: "Send me home." Heaven help anyone who might have blocked her walker at the casino.) Peggy will be remembered for her love of cooking, entertaining and travel. She spent many happy times with family at Minaki, ON; Charlotte, NC; Marco Island, FL; Maui; Vancouver and Whistler. We are grateful for the kindness shown her by Dr. Sheldon Permack, Scott Naherniak and the staff at Victoria General Hospital and Dakota House. Special thanks to Darcy Bartlett, home-care aides and Vlasta Amizic. Sincere appreciation to Lori Abbott and Marg Brenan. There will be a private family service.

Karen, I am so glad I had the opportunity to meet your mom. She wielded her walker like a pro and i enjoyed watching her boss you around a bit!
