GWEN REBECCA MATTSON (nee GILLESPIE) We regret to announce the sudden passing of Gwen Mattson, with husband Carl at her side, from a massive stroke which struck her down on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at the age of 86 years. Remaining to cherish Gwen's memory are her husband, Carl; son Garry (Sharon); grandsons, Erik and Sean; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Lena Mattson; brothers-in-law, Ron and Ralph; father Hugh; mother Rebecca; sister Doris, and brothers, Ron and Edward. On November 10, 1929, Gwen was born in St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba. She attended King George School and the old Norwood Collegiate. After finishing school, she started working at Eaton's general office in Accounts Receivable. In 1954, Gwen met Carl and on August 10, 1956, they were married in Norwood United Church. Their only child, Garry, was born on September 2, 1957, and Gwen quit working to be a stay-at-home mother until Garry reached high school. She then took a job at Eaton's in St. Vital Centre, Winnipeg, retiring in 1994. Gwen was an avid shopper and enjoyed trips to Minneapolis, Minnesota with Carl, her brother Ron, and her mother Rebecca. She enjoyed baseball and always went to see the Minnesota Twins in Minneapolis. In her later years, Gwen adopted the Toronto Blue Jays and watched them play in Toronto, Ontario, or on television. On August 10, 2016 Gwen and Carl had hoped to celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary. She enjoyed good health until three years ago, when it started to decline, but she always accepted without complaining. We will always remember you as true and loving to family and friends. You will truly be missed by us all. In compliance with Gwen's wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. In lieu of flowers, kindly donate to a charity of your choice.
